True Temper or Rifle

I am getting better with my game everyday, and on top of that I am a gear head.. I just got the new Nike Pro Combo forged OS irons they come with the Nike Speed step shafts reg flex.. They feel a little light and my trajectory could be a little higher. And I dont like the grips that much they are a little slick so if I am gonna regrip why not reshaft thats how I think.. Also I got fitted for them and I was 1 upright he said to leave them standard for now since I am still getting used to them and I am sort of new to golf. But if I reshaft them I will bend them while I am at it..

Ok so I was looking into iron shafts and was just wondering what you guys thought were better. Or what your experience are with some of these shafts. I went to True Temper fitting website and after I put in all my stats they suggested the Dynalite Gold R300 w/ sensicore. I was also looking at the Rifle Flighted iron shafts in a 5.0 flex which I believe is Reg flex.I also looked at the Project X shafts in a 5.0 they are the most expensive of the 3 ate $205 for the set compared to about $120 for the others. Just wondering if anybody out there have played with these shafts.. And are the Project X worth the money and are they what I am looking for.. I want a heavier style shaft, higher ball flight. My swing speed with irons is in the 70's i have a smooth avg tempo and I do fade the ball. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks..

I briefly looked into steel iron shafts awhile back. From what I read, a lot of people who play Dynamic Golds switch over to PX because the ballflights are similar (low and penetrating) with the benefit of freq matching.

Los, I tried the rifle shafts when I had a set of TM blades. I did not like the feel, but that may have been due to the clubheads. If you are looking for some extra weight, go with the DG's with sensicore.

I would go with dynamic gold x100's are the best in my opinion. Great shaft, I used them on my old pings. Solid feel.. weight is great and hey after all some guy named woods uses them too.

Los11: for what it's worth, i made a set of irons with the tour flighted rifle 5.0 parallel shafts and tipped according to the specs. when done, they seemed rather stiff for my swing.

I now have the true temper dynalite gold r-300 shafts in my mizuno comp-ez's and they are perfect for me. I also tried these in a stiff, but did not like those, so the reg is for my swing.

I also have put my info in the same swing analyzer as you did and it came up with the dynalite gold reg shaft.

My swing speed goes from around 95 to 98 with a moderate smooth tempo, but I have found I need a low bend and a softer tip club in everything to get the max out of it with the correct height and launch.

hope this helps, but of course, you always need to swing-em to be sure.

BTW, what is the benefit of sensicore? Does it make the shaft feel less harsh? Any advantages in playing characteristics?

From what I have read it takes away vibrations coming thru the shaft..

Ok cool I think we have about the same type swings I am more around 90-95mph but I also have a smooth tempo. I was just wondering how is the ball flight for you with these shafts. I am looking for a high ball flight. I played a S300 shaft before DG it was to stiff for me, so I know I am pretty much a R300 just wonderind between which shaft reg DG or the Dynalite Gold. Also the Project X shafts are a low ball flight correct..

Don't go with the project x shafts if you are a usual regular shaft player. The rifles in general have a different rating system to the true temper, so that is probably why a guy up said that he though they felt stiff when he went to rifles. They can play as much as 1.5 stiffer than true temper (so 5.0 project x is 6.5 tt). If you want a higher ball flight, I suggest the tour flighted rifle 5.0 which is what retief uses. I have them in 5.0 as I though they may be stiffer but in hindsight should have got 5.5.
However, if you want heavier feeling shafts - then TT are usually the way to go.

Los11: I have plenty of height with the dynalite gold r-300's and do not lose control. I also have the Cleveland 588 wedges, 47,53,56, with the dynamic gold stiff and I can hit these ok, but they are stiff and I lose distance with these shafts but have plenty of height. I'm thinking of putting in the rifle wedge shafts in my wedges for a little more feel.

I guess you should try the dynalite reg and stiff just to see.

stagday if you have any other questions, just let me know

I think that 5.0 is actually stiff and 4.0 is reg... but I am not sure.

I think that the True Temper shafts are better but rifle makes great gear.

P.S The sensicore is to eliminate vibrations when you have a miss hit.

I have a freq calculator that I downloaded from Royal Precision's website a while back and it lists 4.5 as reg (85 mph driver swing) and 5.0 as R+ (90 mph).
