The stiffer the shaft the better?
Any truth to the stiffer the shaft the better?
I have been told that a couple of times?

I would say no. Conventional wisdom says that you should swing the most flexible shaft that you can control. Other shaft characteristics involve ball flight.

You should play the most flexible shaft you can control to maximize distance and accuracy.

Yes, what JC said up there is completely true. You should notice a significant loss in distance and accuracy if your shafts are too stiff.
A little off topic, but jackamo, sounds like you have a nice bag... perhaps you could take a picture and put it up in the gallery?
