Stiff or Regular

I was told yesterday when playing with a golfing buddie that you can shape the ball better with a Regular shafted club then a Stiff shafted club is there anyone who knows if this is ture.

As i am in the process of buying a new driver are Stiff shafts better then Regular shafts in drivers......

Its easier to shape a shot with regular if you have a slow swing speed. If you have a high swing speed a regular wont do anything but hurt you.

I'd say don't listen to your buddy.

Swing speed is the key, lower than 90mph get regular for sure. 95mph to 110mph get the stiff. Depending on speed you might want to customize it a bit. E.G. 90 mph get a stiff shaft with higher kick & less torque or a regular with lower than average kick point & more torque. As far as shaping the ball easier? Maybe but this is not a good thing. I got a cheap deal 5 years ago on a callaway driver with a regular shaft. My speed is 105mph. Boy could I ever work the ball (out of bounds).

I'd say go to a store, demo some different clubs/shaft combos, see which one will make your game better, and buy it! Also, not a bad idea to get swing speed, launch angle, etc. for future reference...

i've got a wallyworld driver with a aldila vx shaft that is really soft. then there's my driver with a stiff purpleice which is pretty dang stiff.
i can turn the ball both ways with either(although a controlled fade for me is difficult on the best of days). i think, shotshaping wise, it comes down to your swing.
of course if you use a ladies flex or fister's XXX flex, it may prove detrimental, but generally it's all about a sound repeating swing. if you can, get fitted. there's no substitute for that amount of info.

it is worth it to go to a good golf store and have the battery of tests on the launch monitor. from what i understand flex has little to do with shot shaping. flex is base don how fast you swing, once saw a interview with Woods and he said he could use a regular flex and hit the ball further than he does now but his accuracy would be off. of course after this weekend I can't imagine his accuracy being any worse. I always used stiff flex but after being tested my driver went to x-stiff but my irons stayed stiff. 6 iron clubhead speed of 105mph, driver 115
