Short putter?

Hello, I recently purchased a callaway tour blue TT2 putter 35 inches. I had my last putter cut down to 30 inches b/c I am only 5'0. I like the short length, but I was wondering if you think cutting the tour blue down will have a large effect on the feel of the club? Thanks for the help.

The swingweight difference will be huge. It will feel completely different. I cut my 35" putter down to 33" and brought it back up to reasonable swingweight with a heap of lead tape.

Talking Thanks noobie

Thanks for the advice noobie. I really like a shorter putter so I will probably have it cut, so this makes my decision a lot easier to handle.

The shaft will be tremendously stiffer as well, but a little practice will cure any difference.

Hmmm, I never thought about that in a putter. Do you load your putter shaft?

Thats a great point. I hadn't thought of that either? What affect would that have with a putter? Im sorry, I don't really know what loading the putter shaft is (Im a little new to customizing clubs )

If you cut a normal shaft, it usually plays stiffer than it was previously. If you cut from the grip end, the effect is usually minimal but cutting from the tip end (tipping) will make your shaft play a lot stiffer. The stiffer the shaft, the harder it is to load. Loading of the shaft occurs when you make your downswing move and can feel the shaft bend (load). I've never given any thought to the stiffness of a putter shaft as I don't think you need to load a putter.

Talking Thanks again

Thanks again noobie. You have been very helpful. I think I will give it a try and use lead tape if needed.

Removing 5 inches from the putter will drastically change the swingweight, between 30-40 swingweights. Ideally you want a putter to be between C6 and D4. If the putter is too lite you won't notice much on a slow green, but on a fast green look out! You can add weight to the putter by installing lead weights or lead powder in the shaft first, but this only goes to a point. After that it will require lead tape to achieve your desired swingweight/balance. Check out the photo of my putter in the gallery to get an idea of what gobs of lead tape are. My putter was a 33" and I cut it down to a 31". Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice. Is there anyway for me to know if I am in the range of C6-D4 or would you suggest simply by going on feel alone for what I like? I will take a look at the picture too.

You need to put the putter on a swingweight scale to tell for sure.
