Cracked driver

Okay, I've had my 580XD for a few months now, and a couple of months ago I noticed that the face was kind of caving in a little... It has gotten worse and today I noticed that there is a crack... The only difference I have noticed is that is has been making a different sound... getting more high pitched lately, so much so that it hurts my ears after a while at the range.

I have a couple of questions,
1. Do you think the store where I bought it will just give me a new one? If not will Taylormade? I'll find out later this week, but I'm curious.
2. How would this effect the performance of the club?

Hopefully the store will just replace it and deal with taylormade so I don't have too...
Also hopefully the crack has been sapping like 20 yards off my drives... It'd be cool if I gained some extra yardage with a new one, but I doubt it, I cranked a few out there well over 300 with it today.

Yeah I've had this problem, its a pain. I think I've caved in about 3. They normally replace them depending on how long you've had them.
I don't find it makes thats much a difference for a start but they do eventually.

Thats why Taylormade is ****, check out ashtongolf.com
they produce a great component driver and will put any shaft you like on it, including fujikara speeder.

- I can tell you what happens with some of these manufacturers, the faces are made so thin in order to increase the COR limit of the club, they eventually breakdown and crack, especially when clubhead speed gets over 115mph, with the Ashton head it will hold up to the kind of swing speeds generated by the longest hitters in the world, in fact the longest drive hit at the remax long drive championship was hit with a Ashton X1.

Try it out, contact the Custome Clubshop @ 1800-518-6665, I am sure they can tell you where to try this club out, they have various dealers around the country.

When I bought my last driver money was no object I tried nearly every club out there, but settled with the Ashton X1.

Grant

It should be warranted for a least a year. Contact the dealer or TaylorMade. I would not even use it anymore since it could injure you or a playing partner.

ALL modern drivers will cave in if hit enough times on the range even if they aren't defective. I have caved 3 Callaway, 2 TM, 1 Titleist and a Mizuno and ALL have been replaced free of charge. The first Callaway was a Steelhead and they replaced it with a Steelhead III with a TOUR shaft in it. All of the companies were great to deal with.

I went to the shop where I bought it and they pretty much told me that they won't do anything for me because I don't have the reciept... I told they guy it shouldn't matter, I have the club, it's busted, all you have to do is get a replacement from Taylormade..
He said " I don't even know if you bought it here, or how much you paid... did you even buy it new?" Im like it doesn't matter, I don't want any money from you, I just need it replaced... so anyway, I'm going to go talk to the pro at my home course and see if he can get me a replacement and if not I guess I'll have to do it myself... what a joke...

A receipt is ridiculous. They simply have to send it back to TM and they will replace it. You'll get farther with your golf professional. I'd NEVER spend another dime in that shop though. It doesn't cost them anything to get it replaced.

JC is right on ... I caved a Titleist driver last year and had a new one within a week from my pro-shop. I'd go somewhere else.

They called me the next day and basically told me I was right and that if I brought my club back they would get it all taken care of for me... So I went in today and they were overly nice... "Oh hi I was hoping you'd come in today!" it was funny...

I can't stay mad at that place... they have tons of used clubs, it's a pretty cool little shop... I actually bought a wedge while I was there ( I will keep my receipt :nodsmiley ) anyway I got a like new 52* taylormade rac for $35... I get a week to use it and if I don't like it I can take it back... It will replace my 50* and 54* and I'll use some of my gift certificates that I have won to buy a 13* 3 wood here pretty soon to go along with my 4 wood... I'm not sure which 'in the bag' I'll like better, but it will be nice to have some options

well if I keep hitting driver at the range as much as I do (a couple buckets a week) and playing with rock-flite all the time... I'd put the +/- at about 6 months... that's about how long this one lasted. though it started caving after 4 so this year-round golf is tough on the equipment

Mate, how do you shoot 68 playing a rock-flite. In Hawaii, when the course is probably rock hard
