Weekly Contest #3: What's your favorite golf memory?

Welcome to Golf Rewinds third weekly contest.

This is how it works: I will be asking a question and you are to respond with an answer. Your answer will be your entry for the contest. Only one entry per person. (Entering more than once disqualifies you). Also, please do not post any other posts in the contest thread except for your one entry post. This weekly contest will run from Monday to Sunday each and every week.

In order to win, you must be at Golf Enthusiast level (30+ posts) or higher. If you are not currently at that level, you can still enter but you must have at least 30 posts by the end of the contest in order to win the prize.

The prize: A sleeve of personalized Golf Rewind Pro V1 golf balls.

This contest ends on Sunday, April 8 at 10:00 PM Eastern time.

Here is the question:

What's your favorite golf memory, either as a participant or a spectator?

Good luck, everyone!

my first attempt for eagle, and it was a decent hole: 500+ yards par 5, slightly downhill.

drive was perfect, close to 300 yards, near the front edge of a ravine.
2nd shot was about 215 yards away. hit 5 wood, took 1 bounce right before the front of
the green, landed and rolled to within 2 feet of the pin.

ok, the fun part is over.....i missed the putt!!!!

but still my favorite golf memory to date.

The first time I ever swung a club, although it may not have had good results that's the point where the uncureable itch to play golf comes from.

I was a marshall at the 2003 Tour Championship at Champions GC. I was on the left side of fairway in ankle deep rough. Tiger hit his drive about 3 feet from me. The rough was so thick that I had trouble pinpointing the location to put the marker flag. Steve Williams walked up well ahead of an irritated Tiger. He walked up cautiously when he saw the marker and asked me where the ball was - which was about 8 inches away from the flag. Steve looked at it and started giggling a menacing kind of chuckle.

Tiger walked up cautiously afer a couple of minutes, and looks at me and says "where is the ball?" I told him about 8 inches outside of the flag. He looked at the ball, then at Steve, with a look like, what the ****! Steve started laughing at him, which even brought a smile to Tigers face.

Tiger took an one of those enormous in-the-rough-gouge-out swings and actually got the ball on the green. He lipped out the putt, but made a routine par.

I thought it was good to see that these guys are human in nature, but that are superhuman in ability!

My favorite memory is a near-miss for a hole-in-one that would've won me a Toyota Previa van.

I was the "D" player in a blind-draw charity scramble at Cedar Lakes Golf Club in Loganville, Ga. We were on the Par 3 5th hole which is about 155 yard, but is severely downhill and plays a couple of clubs shorter. I hit the flagstick on the fly and ended up with a 2 foot birdie putt.

I think it upset my playing partners more than it did me. The way they reacted, you'd have thought they took the keys out of my pocket.

As it is, in over 30 years of golf, I've never witnessed a hole-in-one.

Cool

Last year I was playing in a foursome of golers that I had met on a website and I was playing just about the worst golf on my life. I was 20 over on just the front nine. which for me is horrible as I'm a 9 handicap. On the ninth hole, I hit my third shot left of the green on a par 4. I'm left with no option other than a high lob shot. So I set up to hit a flop with my 60* wedge, tell my playing partner to move out of the way, just incase I blade the ball. I make a hugh swing with the club face wide open, hit the ball way up into the air, and it land 3 feet from the flag an rolls in to save par. My playing partners all went nuts, and I just stood there with a frown on my face. Only good shot on the front nine, and I was so mad with the way I was playing, even a par saving flop shot couldn't make me smile. A few hours later was a different story.

The day my son made birdie to get us a third place tournament trophy.

We were playing a best ball tournament at an executive course. Our 17th hole was a 130 yard par 3 over water. We needed to post a low score to get a trophy and had been playing well all day. I proceeded to hit my tee shot in the water. My 12 year old son, knowing what was at stake without any prompting from me, hit his tee shot on the green and made the 20 foot putt for birdie.

We made par on the next hole and received the trophy for third place. Great play by my son under pressure, unlike his father.

My favorite golf memory has to be my introduction to golf.
Heres my story. Its Thanksgiving day. And the guys on my wifes side were all going to play golf before the big dinner. My choices were to sit at home with the ladys or go play golf .
We lived right by the course they were going to play. Now I had never golfed in my life. So I rode with my father inlaw. On the 9th hole I was about half frozen by this point. My wife's grandfather hit a tee shot all of about 100 yards. He had the biggest darn club I had ever seen.
Any way my father inlaw decides to go ahead and pull up to his ball.About 100-150 yards ahead of gramps. we pull to the side of the fairway and get out of the cart.
Well gramps pulls out the cannon and lets it rip.OMG the balls about 10 inches off the ground and heading right for us.gramps YELLS Four!!! I take one look at my father in law and his face says it all. Get the H*ll out of the way.I was so cold I must have been moving like a rusted tin man.So all I can think of doing is jumping up.Well my frozen vertical leap must of been less than 8 inches.
You guessed it Smack! Right in the ankle.Holly **** that hurt like H*ll..My ankle swelled up like a grape fruit.Great first outting.LOL.
Gramps is gone now and we still play golf on Thanksgiving weather permitting.
This still comes up every Thanksgiving.
Thats my story.
Tim

I just like being out there early in the morning with friends. It's so peaceful, you have a great round of golf to look forward to, lunch and then the rest of the day and night to enjoy.

My best single golf memory has to be my one and only eagle.

It was a 500 yard par 5 and I hit the drive just perfect. Second shot, I had about 220 left to the hole and hit long iron. Struck the long iron just perfect and when I walked up to the green, I saw that I only had 4 feet left for the eagle putt.

The putt was downhill with slight break and fast. I didn't want to hit it too hard and you can imagine the nerves I had with such a short putt for my first eagle ever. I tapped the putt and immediately thought I might be short but fortunately, it was short enough and the green was fast enough that it managed to roll in.

I thought it would be the first of many eagles to come but to date, it's my only eagle ever.

Mine is from this past winter...background first. I'm married with 2 girls (7 & 11 at the time) and 2 step-sons (8 & 11 at the time). The girl's mother wouldn't consider golf, and eventually I gave it up. My wife now plays with and without me and loves it.

My memory is a beautiful winter day when we took all 4 kids to the driving range...temp's in the high 60's. We had all 6 of us lined up with 6 sets of clubs hitting balls together and having a blast! The highlight of the day was when my 7 yr. old daughter almost put one in the chipping barrel that was 50 yds. out (55 gallon drum with no top). We had a putting contest on the putting green that was a ball also...the younger kids were able to compete well with all of us, so they especially enjoyed it.

At this point, I still outdrive them all (oldest boy will catch me in a few years), so I got to show off a little. Luckily, the driver was working that day! ;)

Even better...they all want to and do continue to play.

Best of all, I know this will be just one of many family golf memories!

My favorite golf memory was also my first and only eagle. It was December 21, 2006. A cold but clear day. I came up to #17 tee on my home course on track to shoot 100 something at least. I just took a big swing at it and the ball went flying about 280 yds. down the middle of the fairway. This hole is downhill and somewhere around 500 yds., so that drive only left me a little more than 200 yds. away. The fairway slopes from right to left on this hole, so I just aimed a little right of the greenside bunked with a 4 iron in hand and absolutely flushed it. The ball landed about 2 yds. short of the green and a little to the right, exactly where I had aimed. The ball then rolled up to the middle of the green and kept getting better and better until it finally came to rest about 3 feet from the hole. I walked up to the green with unbearable joy and knocked my putt in for an EAGLE 3!

One day when I was about three years old, my father came home from the mines with a five wood that he had cut down for me. I had watched him since I could remember and I wanted to play so bad. I spent most of my time in the yard hitting that cut down five wood until I started hitting over the property fence into the neighbors yard. Thats when my father started taking me serious and finally got me a full set of junior clubs, and that was the start of something we still share today. Golf!

taking my son ( he's 3 1/2) to the driving range for the first time and watching him tee it up and whack away at it, such unabashed joy. Made my year
