Please let me know your opinions on the j33R 460. I'm in a "new Driver" mood. I've hit it on a monitor and it feels pretty solid with good results. What has been your experience? Thanks
I can't honstly give you a full extensive review but I have a 460 with the the Pro-launch 65X in it. It has a square face, very nice looking head, it hides it's size well. I have hit it twice, once at an indoor range and then at a heated outdoor range (I had forgotten about this range).
My swing speed is 110, hitter that is slowly evolving into a swinger, I hit a soft draw but can also hit the fade (not always at will - so I only try it when I have room for escape)
Feel- I love the feel of this head, very solid, you know where you hit it on the face. The face is pretty hot, the ball just launches off the face.
I also like the sound, not overly loud and tingy. The sound is what I expect from the solid feel of the face.
Hard to get a read on the forgiveness, my swing is almost flawless at the range (on the course, it is a different story). It seemed to go where I wanted, though my bad swing is a low diving hook(when I come over the top). I really need course time to see how forgiving it is.
I wanted to like this shaft but found it to be boardy and lacks feel. It is hard to feel it release through the ball. It is good but not great. The 460 driver launches sort of low for some and the PL helps get the ball in the air, that part I did like. With this combo I was getting mid-high ball flight, that is exactly what I wanted. I am coming off a 757 speeder shaft and I think I miss the feel and the kick of that shaft.
I was using a 580XD and after comparing the two, the B-Stone will probably stay in the bag.
I will add this disclaimer, 2 range sessions is not a fair review. I promise to come back and finish after I play a few rounds.
Just picked up a J33R 460 about a week ago. 9.5* with 757 Speeder stiff shaft. I picked one up after watching Appleby hit 400+ yard drives, Hend (last years leader in driving distance) use one and several other long drive competitors using them. Nice looking club. I like the square face versus my slightly open face of my FT-3 Tour. I've hit it at the range a few times now and I am very impressed. Feels nice and balanced in the hands. Impact is very solid and the ball has the nice boring trajectory I'm looking for. I have to really scoop one to make it balloon with this stick. It seems consistently a little longer than my FT-3 with the same shaft mainly because I hit this straighter more often. Center flush contact shots appear the same but I seem to find the center with the face square more often. The sound at impact is very muted by the insert I suppose but it is more of a 'doink' than the typical loud 'ting' you get with most Ti drivers. I actually prefer the sound of the FT-3 to this but this is much easier to hit and VERY difficult to fade for me which is good. I have been hitting a high, boring draw with this so far. I've hit about 50 balls with it but have yet to loose one right. I've over cooked one left but everything else is straight or with a little draw. I'll take those odds standing on the tee box.
I just purchased the J33R 420 9.5 degrees loft with Aldila NV 65 shaft (stiff).
This club is downright awesome and solid. I had a higher backspin with other drivers, but this club reduces my spin and my ball flight is much better. I have noticed that the club also gets more roll than my previous driver. Maybe I should have pursued the 10.5 degree driver, but I am clearly 10 yards longer and straighter into the wind.
I am now a Bridgestone fan. You can get the 420 on e-bay at pretty good prices.
Had the 460, 8.5 Fuji 757 speeder in the bag for two weeks. Best performing driver I've every owned. Thought the FT-3 would be in the bag forever...for low spin, low trajectory ball flight... but the Bridgestone beats it. At least this week...
I demoed this club extensively and couldn't get over the muffled feel and sound. I know this is a great club but it didn't provide me the type of feedbacks that I am used to recieving from a driver.
I swing the Yonex Nanospeed, but the Bridgestone J33 I demoed is long and sounds great. Combined with the B330 balls (which I play), you will add distance.
