Cobra Speed Driver Review

I recently purchased a Cobra X-Speed Driver 9.5* with the X-stiff shaft in it.

-Very good feel
-Very large sweet spot
-Looks a tad closed at address
-I feel a bit more confident over this driver than other 460cc drivers
-Very loud when hit on the sweet spot
-Purchased for around $200 on ebay brand new

I got to take it to the range today, I've hit this club before on a launch monitor and they said that it fit me best with the shaft/head combo. I'm a tad shorter so I may get the shaft cut like 1/2" to 1" or so. I'm not to fond of the huge headed drivers but knowing that this club fit my swing gave me alot of extra confidence over it. Hitting the ball directly on the sweet spot produces an extra loud sound almost piercing. I hit very well with this club with a max of about 260-265 carry and pretty low, boring ball flight which will produce alot of roll(which I prefer). I would definitely recommend this club to anyone who likes the bigger heads, loud sound, and lots of carry Now I kinda have a look see at how the Long Drive Team gets those extra yards from these drivers.

Mine is going to be here today. I ordered a x-speed at 7.5* with an x flex. I may end up puting a penley stealth 70 x flex shaft in it @ 46". I have a 7.5* 427 that I love but I just wanted to try the bigger head. I will post my opinion of this club when I get a chance to hit it out on the course. I have a feeling I will be puting the penley shaft in because the stock x-flex shaft is only 60 grams. I have found the lighter the shaft the more it flexes, I think 60 grams will be too weak plus I want the extra inch in the shaft.

i borrowed a friends cobra 400 sz 7.5 degree w/ hmd stiff shaft , and I noticed how high it launches the ball . Played more like a 9.5 degree. Do the speeds do the same? thanks

I had trouble hitting the driver solid it just felt dead. I played with it for 9 holes and put it back in the car and grabbed my 7.5* 427 cobra with the same shaft. I dont understand how they can be so different. I crushed the 427 on the back nine.

I sent it back to cobra and they built me a new driver with the same shaft and head. Maybe the face was dead??? I will post results of the 2nd driver after I take both the 427 and the x-speed to the range so I can compair side by side. The new driver came today via fed ex I should hit it by friday or sat.

I've never hit any Cobra at all, but yesterday we had regionals and a guy in my foursome had a 9.5 X-speed with an X-stiff NVS. I was crushing the ball with my R7 and he was still outdriving me by 10-15 yards consistently.

I have an F speed with s shaft and it is a great club. I switched from a 540 xd and have increased my drives easily 15 yards on average with a seemingly eaiser swing. I find myself in new areas on my home course and have had to readjust accordingly. I did hit hooks out of the box, but have adjusted and now swing confidenlly with a slight draw which I had trouble with controlling previously. Longer and more control = positive review.

Recently bought the F speed, was hitting a 983 titleist, wow, what a difference. Tried all the new ones on the monitor, and was able to pick up 5 mph extra club head speed with the F speed. Well worth the $, as said in a previous review, I find myself in parts of the fairway I wa never in before.

I have had my F speed for a couple of months now. I played a demo at a local course here and was hooked. I was out driving my Launcher by about 20-30 yards. and my drives have just been getting longer and longer. I have given some thought to switching out my FW woods as well. And as some of the others have said it is LOUD!!!

My Review:

I am some what of a driver conaseur if you will. Currently I have an FT-3 Tour, a X460 Tour, a G2, and Launcher 460.

I just purchased the X speed 9.5 about three weeks ago. All I can say is whoa! I have been serching for a driver that I could just "point and click" if you will. I have a very smooth, slow swing but have great tempo. I have always felt that with my driver if I dont go after it I do not get the distance I am looking for. Well the search is over. Had my swing speed tested and it is about 7 MPH less with the X Speed and I am hitting it farther than the previous mentioned drivers.

Say what you will about the "hot face" on the FT3 but I think the X Speed is better. Callaway has a sick driver but for me Acusnet out did them! That is coming from a Callaway guy!

what is different about the 3 models of clubs ? I seen where the shaft and grip are differnet in the new one but anything in the head ? I am not saying anyone here is doing this , But I think the majority of people will buy the x-speed because they over estimate there ability and may fall short in actual performance.

I am not a over estimator. I bought the f speed and even demoed the m speed the same day. I just wanted more distance. whichever model produced was the one for me. Big thing I didn't like in the m speed was the closed face.

I can't compare to the X as I only tried the F and M speeds...I will say that there is too much draw bias for my taste in the F and it launches high even with the upgraded NV 75s shaft...I changed my ball position (farther back in the stance) and have found heaven in trajectory and distance...my only shot however is a draw as I find it difficult to contol a fade with this club...lately I have found it difficult to control fade with all my clubs so it has me thinking that it is me rather than the club...suprisingly I hit my old driver R540xd better now that I've gotten this club, and now also hit the old driver with a draw, although I am able to fade with a degree of control...if your swing is fairly decent I would go for the X speed...

New F-Speed in my bag

I spent my second session on the launch monitor try various drivers and finally took the plung on an F-Speed 10.5 Regular.

I tried: Mizuno MX500 10.5 (stock reg, NVS stiff) Nike Sasquatch 10.5 (stock reg) Ping 9 (stock reg) and the Cobra F-Speed.

Although I hit similar shots and distance with all of the clubs I felt more comfortable with the cobra and hit my most accuarate drives, even when really going after it. My last 2 balls both landing in the +/-5yd and carrying 240-250yds. Baring in mind I had hit about 50-60 balls, was hot/sweaty and tired but they still went down the middle.

My ball speed was again around the 140mph mark even touching on the low 150 at one point, but I would swing more within myself on the course. My launch was slightly better than the previous session @ 13.5 and carry was also better.

My thoughts on the club: I am not overly keen on the slightly closed face (when sitting on hard floor) although it doesnt seem to sit as closed on the grass. The grips on these clubs are always so thin that I have already changed it, but again the mildly closed face has put doubts in mind whether I have aligned it correctly, I guess I will find out when I play. The face is huge! I have never seen anything like it and honestly think hitting right out of the toe or heel may be impossible? On the test I hit it slightly on the heel side of centre but still got a lot of accuracy and distance.

I am looking forward to getting out on the course
