When I was getting fitted for my HiBore driver the pro told me that this club was really hit or miss, that some people love it and some just hate it. He dialed me in with a launch monitor and the thing has just been a joy, running an 8.5* loft and Aldila NVS super stiff shaft, i'm much longer and more accurate off the tee. For the price right now this can be a decent option for a new driver without taking a loan out. They're getting nuts again this year, $500 drivers that look like you're swinging a Buick.
I am using the 8.5* loft and Aldila NVS super stiff shaft also. Hit the range a few times very well, and of course the simulators, just waiting for some decent weather.
Played my first real round with this club, let me say that I usually shoot around 95-100, drink when I play(who doesn't) and love to just play. Now, I am not serious, but of course I love the game and want to get better, it just seems I am not really.
18 holes played, I hit 11 fairways ( I guess I usually hit 4-5) and I averaged about 260 on the drives (I usually hit it 230 or so) I shot a 91, my best round ever at this course( my previous here was 98).
I slice, and I mean it's like a power slice, but the Hibore actually straighten it out a bit for me.
I hit it too high also, had to train myself to really tee it up lower. I also went with an 8.5 degree and this is the best thing for my game I have ever touched.
This club is great. I went with a 9.5' and mated it with a Graman 780 S flex and then tipped it 2 inches. Its a weapon, easier driver I've ever hit. They perform better if you tee them like a 3 wood. But alas mine broke last week, cracked the face. Now I'm waiting to get my hands on a XL Tour
Newbie here but just want to share my opinion on this topic. I was pounded on on another forum for saying so but after 18 years of clubmaking I should at least have a bit of knowledge. So here goes: I measured a Hibore in a club measuring gauge(not the cheapo magnetic type btw) and even though the stamped loft reads 10.5 the actual loft on the club is 13 degrres with a 1 degree closed face. Don't look elsewhere for the high ball flight. Just my 0.02
Yep I've heard the same thing. Its a fact that 99% of golfers need more loft. If they stamped them 13' who would buy them. I don't care what the loft is as long as goes long. I just picked up an 11' FT3 to try out.
I was browsing some golf store sales brochures, when I came across the following quote from Vijay Singh, dating back to this year's Mercedes Championship, next to a page full of Cleveland clubs.
"I asked for a new driver and they got me this new HiBore, and it's an incredible club," Singh said. "I wouldn't be surprised if a lot more guys don't change to it. It's probably one of the better drivers out here for a while."
I think I remember hearing VJ making this rather harmless mistake at the time: I am a little surprised to see the quote repeated in sales materials!
I reciently went to a Cleveland Van demo. They had the launch monitor set up on the range so you were not hitting into a net. They were demoing the HiBore driver with every possible shaft combination. I was interested because I have never been able to get comfortable with my Nike SQ. So I went in and just started swinging sticks. I liked the way the HiBore sets up, and was amazed at the difference the shafts made in the ball flight. I started out with the factory fuji shafts and was not to impressed, I had a lot of balls leaking to the right. Switched to the NVS shaft and this was an inprovement, straighter ball flight but tended to balloon. Next stop was the ProLaunch shaft. I love this shaft, it has a high boring flight that doesnt balloon. Even on poor hits that should have sliced the most I got was a slight fade. This combination tries to take the right side out of play. As far as distance goes I picked up about 20 yards over the Nike SQ. Bottom line is HiBore outpreformes Nike, Taylormade and Callaway. If you get a chance compare these clubs side by side, Cleveland has the real deal with the HiBore.
I think the real message here is that tgetting fit for the right shaft/head combination gives optimal results...congragulations!
After reading Tom Wishon's book "The Search for the Perfect Golf Club" I was convinced that as a senior (61) I needed a higher loft and a shorter shaft for my driver. I ended up with the original HiBORE with 11.5* and custom ordered at 44". I found a "Go To" club for me!. I use the stock Fuji regular shaft (<90 mph swing speed). I tried the stock XL version with 45" and have elected to stay put with the original for now. Will look forward to demoing the 2008 XLS model.
