TaylorMade R7 460 Draw Driver Review
I am surprised no one review this club yet, so here goes mine.
I have been playing since April have taken a series of 19 lessons. I do not have a handicap yet, unless you count my swing. I shoot in the 90-105 range. So take this review for whatever it is worth.
I recently broke my TaylorMade R7 425 clone, it has been the second driver I have used my first being a TM SuperSteel 250. I have been fighting a fade to weak slice since I started playing. I went to the local golf store and hit just about every driver they had under $400 dollars, avoiding the R7s because I wanted to try something that was not so gimicky. Finally I picked up the R7 draw to try just for the heck of it, boy am I glad I did.
It is regular flex in a stock shaft, I have been swinging stiff shafts in my last two drivers. But this is the first time I have had my speed swing measured and the guys at the shop recommended the regular flex. Of course my swing is not too repeatable yet so I was swinging as fast as 107 and as slow as 92.
From the first tee on today as I used the club for the first time, I was hitting the ball straight or with a slight draw. I hit 11 out of the 14 fairways I drove with this club, with an average yardage around 280. My longest was around 315. The only reason I missed the 3 fairways, was I was still aiming to far left as I have been in the past to compensate for my fading tendencies. I would just repeat mentally with myself that, I am not hitting a fade anymore, don't aim left.
Overall this is a great club, it has taken the whole right side of the fairway out of play. I am sure that with some practice, I will get surgical with the R7 Draw driver. The only knock I have on the club and mine is a 10.5 loft so that is partially to blame, is that it hits the ball a mile high. I am concerned that on a windy day, it could cause some real problems. I am considering having it re-sahfted with an Aldilla NV, in hope of lowering my drive height.
For the first time ever I had no fear off the tees, after the first 9 holes in was in a Tee Box Nirvana. If you fear the right side of the course, this is the driver for you. I am still psyched and can't wait to take it out again.
