I'm an equipment junkie. The good part of that is that my equipment need not be the "latest and greatest" thing to come out from one of the big OEM companies. I'll try darned near any club once.
The Tour Edge driver has been sitting in one of my spare bags for a few months now. The first time I used it, I wasn't impressed much. I was used to the feel and sound of an "all titanium" driver. I didn't like the sound the Carbon made. I didn't like the fact that it was 10*. I'm a man after all, and men hit 8.5*, or 9.5* at most (yes folks, I have since learned better, but that was pretty much the way I thought).
I've been fighting my driver. It's pretty much a constant. I hit high-toe hooks quite often, and have been trying for quite some time to find a club that's more forgiving on those high-toe shots. The Carbon may be the answer for me.
I took it out Sunday, and played a bit of "smart golf." I know I hit a draw, so if it was a fade hole, I didn't hit driver, but instead teed off with a hybrid. If it was a draw hole, I went ahead and took a rip at it. Now, me taking a full rip with a driver isn't smart, but the Carbon is weighted as such that it took the hook I'd normally expect, and turn it into a soft draw. Nice.
I think I like this club - alot.
The specs:
Tour Edge J-Max Carbon head, 10*, neutral
UST ProForce 85 shaft, X flex, cut to an overall length of 45.5", standard tip trim, with a Golf Pride Dual-Durometer grip
I know this club isn't for everyone, but for the money, it might be a club that's worth trying. I got mine on eBay several months back for $39. All I've done to it is have it reshafted. Hard to pass up a deal like that - for me anyways.
