I've been using a Titleist 983K for a while now and I've enjoyed good results with it. I hit more fairways with it than my old driver (Taylor Made 320Ti) and my average distance is better but I think I would do better with a more forgiving driver. Don't get me wrong. I hit more fairways than I ever did and my average driving distance is longer but my best drives are shorter than those with my old driver. Maybe I am playing the wrong shaft?
I am a fade hitter but I can work the ball both ways. This driver has a draw bias and I have been prone to hitting pull hooks when I try to draw the ball. This is probably the biggest gripe I have with the driver. I can hit a solid fade all day with this driver and but when a dogleg left hole comes, I'm not sure if I'll hit a draw or a pull hook. I'm sure I can't fully blame the driver as my swing has something to do with it but I didn't really have problems this bad with my old driver.
All in all, this is a solid driver. I've tried a lot of drivers (Cleveland Launcher 400, various Taylor Made drivers) and this driver ranks with any of them. I think it would be perfect if Titleist came out with a 400 cc version, though because then I would have more confidence to put a little extra on my drives.
In the end, I gave the Titleist 983K 4 stars (birdie) because results are what count and I do hit more fairways than ever before and distance isn't bad.
I have a 983K with 9,5° loft and a stiff Aldila NV65 shaft. If you're thinking about getting a 983K you must try different shaft options and find out which one suits you best.
Before the 983K I had an ERC II, which had good distance but very little forgiveness. I find the 983K very forgiving and easy to hit, especially compared to the ERC II, but I haven't tried many other new drivers. Distance is similar to the ERC II when I hit it well, but much better on off center hits. Feedback and feel is better than with any driver I have tried, I just love really crunching a drive with it.
When I was playing well this summer and my swing was good, then I just couldn't miss with this driver, everything was straight and long. When I was a bit off form I didn't hit it as long, but I could always get the ball in play and keep it on the fairway.
In my experience this driver suits low to mid handicap players best. Most of my buddies have the same driver and they're very happy with it, they're all single digit players.
I gave this driver an eagle, it has helped me be a lot more consistent and I can't imagine a better driver than this out there for me.
Great driver! Best I have every hit (and believe me I have tried a bunch). I just
seem to have the confidence to hit the ball solid and straight. First time I have
felt this in quite some time.
ok, this is for ppl with a swing speed from 90 to 95, moderate tempo.
I have now played both the 983K ys-6 stiff and the ys-6 reg. shaft.
At first i was thinking the stiff was to stiff, but that is not the case.
I took several balls marked for the stiff and several marked for the reg. and hit them out into my field to gauge the distance.
Results: the reg. did not go as far, in fact, was a good 15yds shorter on average, so the stiff is the club for my swing speed even though it's a through-bore club.
The reg. felt fine and was ok, but one thing about the stiff, it makes you put a good swing on the ball to get what your looking for.
Hope this helps anybody that's been wavering back and forth.
I thought there was the K and the E configurations. What are the two different K configs?
In Europe you can buy a Hi-Cor version, it doesn't conform to USGA regulations but it conforms to R & A regulations, at least until 2008 (I think). A mate of mine has the Hi-Cor version and he regrets getting that one, after trying the normal one he says that it's much better.
I like the feel and distance of the 983K, but the sound is displeasing to me. I prefer the loud ting of my Launcher. The K flys well and as great workability, but i still dont like the sound.
The launcher is great if you have a slower swing speed. But notice that no PGA Tour Pros use the Launcher. I know for a fact that Vijay uses the r7 and David Toms was using a Ping driver for a while. The 983 is top when it comes to higher swing speeds.
Has anyone here used a 975 and changed to 983?
I am still using the 975 and really love it. The only issue is
I dont hit it too far. Maybe, average around 230-35y.
Was wondering if the 983 added distance to anyone that also
used the 975.
Tommy- before John Daly switched to all Dunlop he was playing the 975. Long John said that although the 983 offered him more distance the accuracy it offered wasn't as great. I didn't see it that way, since it added 30 yards to my tee shots. But anyways when Daly says no to distance the year he lost his PGA Tour Long Drive Crown you know somthing has to be up. I hope that helps.
ya i just switched to the 983k for the 975 l-fe and the 983 adds some distance. I used to hit my drives about 260-280(not bad for a 14 year old) and i then switched to the 983 and im now hitting the ball around 290-300 consistently. quite an improvement.
hope it helps
and if you are thinking about switching i would strongly reccomend it.

I had a 975D and changed to a 983K after I was custom fitted for my irons. I was getting 30 yards more carry over an average of 12 balls with tha 983K on the Titleist custom fitting machine.
To be honest I was never expecting that increase as I already hit my 975 280+.
