Re: Callaway Big Bertha 454 Driver Review

Found one for cheap today, and am thinking about picking it up. Anyone had any recent experience with this driver? and/or experience with the Grafalloy Blue Pro-Launch shafts?

Yes, I had this shaft & head combo and if you read my post in this thread you will see my opinion of the driver. I really liked this driver and if I didnt have what I am playing now, I would really miss it. As per my review, the head face is harder than most so if you are a big hitter now, you will appreciate that even more. The loft you note (8º) is low by today's standards for even what the pros use but the shaft will counteract that because it is supposed to launch a little higher. If you dont have the swing speed though, you will find the combination out of control. Combine the hard head, the grafalloty shaft (stiff can feel boardy if you havent used this brand before) and the low loft and you may hit lots of pushes and slices. Be prepared to swing hard and you'll be rewarded. Hope this helps.

My driver swing speed averages out to 117 mph across 20 swings, so that won't be a problem. I'm hitting an 8.5* TM R580XD with a Grafalloy Blue Tour Stiff shaft, that's cut even stiffer because it's tipped for a 3 wood.
The only part of this combination I'm truly worried about is the shaft. I hit one in a 8.5* G2, and it felt really whippy compared to what I'm used to. I have an extra Blue in .350 tip that'll fit right into it though, so if I'm not happy with the Pro Launch, I could always change it out.
I'm pretty much committed to a new Tour Edge Carbon with a ProForce 85 in X-flex right now, so I'm probably going to pass on the Callaway. I haven't really decided yet.
