Well, I've just returned from a vacation in Spain, staying in my uncles villa. thankfully, my uncle is golf-mad.
his villa is a 5 minute drive from la manga club, and on out second day there we played the south course, and it is a masterpeice! fairways like carpet, greens like tiles, and well designed, with lots of water. lots of water. i've came to the conclusion that its a huge lake, with a few tees, fairways and greens thrown onto it!
after a few more rounds, we decided to go to la finca golf club, a new layout, only opened within the last few years i think. this course i thought was far superior to la manga, and half the cost! http://www.golflafinca.com
plus, i shot a 78 on my first try at la finca, so maybe thats why i like it! i expect to see the spanish open played here before too long!
take a look at the 17th hole on that website, its my favourite golf hole ever!
Welcome back, Gaz! It sounds like you had a wonderful vacation with some really great golf. Sorry, I couldn't figure out how to find the 17th hole on the website, but the music was really cool. A 78, huh? Good playing. You must thrive in the warmth of the Spanish sun!
the vacation itself wasnt great, if i didnt have my clubs with me it would have been ****!
have to say, the golf was amazing.
if you cant see the 17th on the website, its the 6th at bay hill, in par 4 version. you can go right of the lake and make your second shot have to carry the water, or can take on all the water on your tee shot and go for the green, which is about a 250 carry. such a well designed hole!

i played the course 3 times, and the first two times i went for it, first time, i hit the green, second time i made the carry but it missed the green to the right. the 3rd time the wind was just too strong to allow me to go for it, so i put it on the fairway with a 4-iron.
You're my kind of player, Gaz! Give it a go if conditions allow and see what happens. Playing safe all the time isn't any fun.
Going for it is the best! Especially when you hit a pure shot that makes you wet your pants in excitement. Those are the moments we all golf for. I never lay up unless I absolutely HAVE TO. I hardly ever hit that nice shot, so my scores go way down, but whatever. I'll remember that nice shot down the road rather then a bad score.
Then again, I ****.

Glad to hear you had a god vacation, But do you know La Manga has been put up for sale at put up for sale at an estimated £100m (US$180m). Came across the news on one of the golf sites. Hope anyone who buys it keeps it in the same superb condition. ciao
