I recently graduated from the san diego golf academy and have moved to tampa florida. i'm currently looking for a job in the area and was wondering if anyone on here has any suggestions, offers, or advice that might help me find something in or around tampa. thanks, ben
Ben,
Welcome to Florida! I'm about an hour south down in Sarasota. You have a lot of courses in this part of Florida to choose from - what types of work are you looking for, what is your specialty?
I've seen ads lately for everything from caddies and greenskeepers to club pros and course managers, so this may be a good time to find you something.
The only course I have played in Tampa is the USF course, called The Claw. It is a very mediocre course, but pretty challenging. The course is named after the 14th (I believe). That hole is called The Claw. Double dog-leg par 5. If you are off the fairway by a foot, the ball is gone. NASTY hole.
thanks guys. i'm looking for an entry level job as an assistant pro. my degree is in golf complex management with extensive training in modern teaching and club repair. i was also a caddie at pinehurst and since i don't plan on staying in tampa for a while, a caddie job might actually be a good idea, it's a good way to make a lot of money quick and i am getting married in oct. so the quick money will be good. any courses in tampa that use caddies?? thanks again
I don't believe you'll find a job as a caddie anywhere in Florida, unless it's some very exclusive private club. Most courses in Florida require you to take a cart out with the round. That's a major source of revenue for the clubs down there. Good luck to you. I wish I could start over and be in your shoes. Man, would that be fun!
One of the course here in Sarasota is advertising for caddies. Says they make $400-$700 per week. Don't know which course - the ad doesn't mention it. You can see it here http://tinyurl.com/atd7g if it interests you.
