Toying with the idea in coming over to SW Florida in November.Probably flying into Tampa and staying at Lakelands
What's the weather like for golf in early November ? HAve the hurricanes finished ?
late october, november is a good time to come down, hurricane season is finished and the temperature is usually in the 70 to 80's range and not much rain. call some of the courses you intend to play to find out availability and prices. nothing worse than sticker shock.
You also might want to call and ask if and when they overseeded their greens. Some of the courses in Florida wait till October to overseed and the greens are really hairy.
That is right at the beginnings of "snowbird season", when rates begin their climb. Rates are favorable from summer through late October, mid-November. When the snow starts in the north, people begin their winter migration to Florida, and the rates go up accordingly and, in some cases, drastically. I played TPC Heron Bay in Coral Springs (north of Ft. Lauderdale) last October for less than $50. Looked at the rates for November-December and they were in the neighborhood of $100. Either lock in some rates for when you go, or lock down a time before the rates go up. That is if money is an issue; if not go whenever and HAVE FUN !
If you come early in November, it will be gloriously warm and sunny. We are moving into winter then, which for us is the dry season. Bring your shorts. Temps will be in the low to mid 80s in the day and 60s at night. The Gulf water temp will still be in the high 70s to low 80s. If you come early, you will beat the onrush of snowbuzzards, er, snowbirds...they usually really hit here from Thanksgiving on. The prices will go up in early to mid November too, so it will get a bit more expensive to play. Call ahead and check on the overseeding...some of the greens can be super sandy and fast. But regardless, November is a marvelous time to play golf in South Florida. You just have to watch out for the octogenarians driving cars...that can be really scary. You see a land barge/Lincoln go by but you can only see some spindly, boney hands on the top of the steering wheel...you've got to be careful on the road. To me, that's the only nerve wracking part about being here during "season".
Nice weather usually then, not as hot and sticky but still warm (and as was mentioned, water still nice too), good time to come down. Tail end of the hurricane season, but chances are very good you'll be fine.
Lakeland is my "home town" and I still go up there and golf with friends about once a month. By November very few, if any, of the courses will still be aerating and sanding. They'll be done with that by the middle of October, giving the greens and fairways 3-4 weeks to heal before the winter onslaught!
Come November you can pay anywhere from $30/round at a decent course to $150 or more at some of the finer courses. The prices around Lakeland don't jump nearly as much as they do here on the Gulf coast. Sandpiper, Schalamar Creek, and Wedgewood are nice courses with reasonable rates. Cleveland Heights is also a great course. Then you have Lone Palm, Eaglebrooke, Imperial Lakes, and several others that will cost you a bit more. Within less than an hour's drive you have some of the best courses in the World - Champion's Gate, the Disney courses, Bay Hills, etc.
If you're over the shock of Europe losing the Ryder Cup by then, let me know when you'll be here and I'll see if I can get you an up-to-date recommendation!
If you're over the shock of Europe losing the Ryder Cup
If we do lose , I'll need to come over to explain why we will win the next one.
I noticed TPC Tampa and World Woods are seeding in last week of October , so I assume most courses will be around the same time. I have been to TAmpa twice so I know the area, but I've heard good things about the Panhandle. Now thinking mid October.
Will post more details if I book some flights. Thanks for the advice.

the weather can still be very warm and muggy with the threat of hurricanes still there. most will depend on if cold fronts work their way thru, if they do, the weather will be very nice(mid 70's), if not, it will be very warm and muggy(mid to high 80's), but not as bad as mid summer.
well, let me know when you come over and we'll get together with Incosistent and Wb4jth and go play a round or two. pm me before you comeover and i'll give you phone number. Heron Creek is a very nice course and i live just a few miles south of Englewood.
