Hoping to have a golfing break in Florida sometime this year around the Orlando area. What would be the best time of year to avoid:
1. Too many other people on the course (i.e. US holidays)
2. Too hot
3. Hurricanes, tornadoes or whatever you have over there!
Any suggestions for courses suitable for a husband and wife pair of hackers would also be welcome.
April and May are pretty good months-- lower on the tourists, and though it can get hot, it isn't into the sticky summer pattern with the afternoon storms. October and November can be good months too, but it is the tail end of the hurricane season. Jan.-March can have some very beautiful days (I'm about an hour north of Orlando and it was in the 80's today and gorgeous; almost went swimming!), but on the flip side, winter fronts followed by short cold snaps are common.
Based on your specifications, I'd say avoid June-September.
I was just down in Orlando in November on vacation and had a great time. Weather was a bit cool in the mornings but the golfing was great. We only played 2 courses, Remington and Royal St. Cloud. The latter was the nicer course at $52, $42 with coupon from the local paper, but Remington was the best deal for the money. $60 gets you breakfast, hot dog and soda at the turn, lunch when you finish, and if you want, you can play another 18. The price also included use of the driving range. My friend and I got paired with an English gentleman and his son. We had such a good time with them that we paired up again at Royal St. Cloud later in the week.
You seem to be angling toward Spring, and that would be a good choice. Not too hot or crowded (except around Spring Break) and no hurricanes. Your big thing would be dodging showers. If your not doing theme parks, March to June would be nice. Even if you are doing theme parks that's not an awful time.
I would say February and march, heat is not too bad especially if ur an early bird player, and all of the frieken snow birds are out! Those are the people who really cram up the courses and thats what the prices are driven up. Snowbird season is generally from beginning of October to middle to end of February for most of them.
