I just came back from orlando after a stay for a week, was able to play two courses there, metro west and disney ospray ridge, will give a quick review.
1- OSpray Ridge....decent course , got stuck behind a very slow foursome late in the evening, that kinda frustrated me a lot, couldnt get any tempo going, they have just aerated the greens so they are horrible, so anyone planning any recent trips to thia course, make sure greens are okay before you go.
2- Metro West...i really liked this course, played early morning, was able to get out before anyone else and played alone, finished 18 in 2.5 hours, good layout, nice greens, built around a housing comunity so no good views but still a good course, pretty expensive though, didnt expect it to be this expensive, but definitely reccomended.
p.s. an idea for mods, can we please create a forum for golf course reviews so people can plan their vacations this way rather than sking in this forum.
thanks.
I live in Orlando and like both of those courses. Osprey Ridge is a Tom Fazio design and my favorite Disney Course. Metro West is a good course with wide fairways. It is usually in good shape but it is overpriced compared to other courses in the area.
Next time you are in Orlando look at lastminutegolfer.com or golf18orlando.com . Magnolia Plantation, 20 miles north of Orlando, is one of the best values in the area. Tough course and a real challenge. You can usually play it for about $22-25 with these websites except for weekend mornings.
I played at Orange County National last year and loved the courses. Panther Lake and Crooked Cat are fun to play and can really challenge scratch players from the longer tees. The fees are reasonable and the facility includes lodging,a fine dining room and an executive course, also.
Orange County National is a definite! Played the Panther Lakes course and it gets you from go. I played some smaller out of the way courses around Orlando, not many in town but have visited a few. Actually stayed once in a condo on Metro West and that's a nice track, as is Mystic Dunes. So many courses, so little time - a suggestion; use the search function above and search for Orlando courses. I have many times seen comments in this forum about courses in that area.
I agree with ziqch - we should have a section dedicated strictly to courses. It would be great to have it set up by city, state, prices, or rewind users favorites! We could also database it, so when you plan a trip to New Orleans for instance, our local folks could get pm's and possibly connect for a round. Just a thought...
It's a good thought and one that many GR members have suggested. I know members living in a specific area and those that may have experience on certain courses would gladly share those experiences and local knowledge with us.
Sadly, there's nothing we can do without our absent site Administrator.
That's still weird... no one has heard from him in how long? How much effort would it be for someone to take it over; basically just hijack the site and start fresh?

I would also second this motion - instead of each time having to ask for suggestions - the questions will always come - but to have a list to start from.
I have received excellent advise and help for several trips - both on where to play and how to get good rates for doing so on this board
I played Metro West in November. Played with my boss and a few other coworkers. Had my first hamdog there. Its a hamburger that looks like a hot dog and served in a hot dog bun. Also played pretty well. It's a nice course.
