Pensacola Beach Golf

I am going to Pensacola beach in a couple of weeks and only going to have time for 1 round of golf. Tiger Pointe Golf club is real close to where I will be staying. Has anyone ever played there, or have any advice for Pensacola Golf. Tiger Point is right on the ocean so I am guessing early morning would be a better tee time because of the wind. Thanks in advance.

There isn't a great many of courses that I would suggest in the area. I live in Tiger Point and can tell you that the new grounds keeper is doing a great job of turning the course around since Ivan. The Moors which use to hold the senior's Blue Angel is a good track. Plenty of water like TP but it slightly better condition. Hidden Creek in Navarre (operated by the same owners of TP) is another good track that I would recommend. Lost Key you can't go wrong with. Depending on your time and how far you would like to drive I don't think any of these would be bad choices. I know TP is not getting that much play right now so Tee times shouldn't be a problem and if your staying at the beach is just 15 minutes vs. 30-50 for the others. But then there's always Destin.

I live at Marcus Pointe and highly recommend my home course. You can call them at 850 484-9770 for rates, tee times, etc.

The basic grass is dwarf tiff (a bermuda grass), but it is overseeded with bent during the colder part of the year (for another month or so). I played this morning and the greens are beautiful.

Thanks

I think we are going to play tiger pointe because of the location. How much does the wind come in to play. Looking at the map it seems to be right on the ocean.

There is usually a wind out of the south, but it's manageable unless there is bad weather or frontal passage. I played Thursday when it was light and variable, then yesterday it was about a two club north wind. May I suggest that you play the East Course at Tiger Point. It's slightly more expensive, but usually in a little better condition and much more challenging.

I don't know if challenging is what I am looking for (knowing my game like I do). Last year I played Soldiers Creek and Glenn Lakes in near by gulf shores. Does Tiger Point compare to either of these? I liked both of these courses, didn't score that well but had a great time. The gps unit in the cart at Soldiers Creek is great when playing a new course, wish they all had them. Glen Lakes back nine was very tough, never seemed like I had a flat lie. Anyway thanks for all your help. I will let you know how it went.

Your only option is the East course. They haven't opened all of the west just the front nine.

One last ?

Or maybe two.. I checked out their website and price was $59 before noon and $45 after noon(east course). Is this the best deal I can get or do they have local coupons or promotions?

Last one.. Where can a family of four eat some good seafood and still have some cash for golf? I have to 12 year olds so maybe a little entertainemt for them and good meal for the wife and myself. Thanks alot guys.

Trip update..

Had a great time in Pensacola Beach this weekend. Got to play 2 rounds instead of the one origanlly planned, more golf always a positive. Played the east course at Tiger Point Friday afternoon and course was in great shape. Wind was very strong, but it was my first time to play that close to the ocean so that might be normal. Shot an 88 with no help from the putter. Saturday we played the west course (9 Holes) twice. First nine I shot 48 second nine I shot a 40. Putter helped me on the last nine. Wind was still blowing pretty good saturday. West course has a ways to go before it catches east course. Everyone was friendly and very helpful. The cart guys gave us some advice on places to eat and explained the area to us. Anyways Thanks to Billyg and pensacola golf for the advice.

No offense but you are disillusioned if you thought Tiger Point was on the "ocean"....that is the Santa Rosa sound and is basically a bay. I would have suggested Lost Key myself as that is one of my favorite all time courses but if you were shooting upper 80's at Tiger Point you can pretty much be guaranteed you wouldn't have broke 100 at Lost Key. If you ever go back, you should try it out

Read a little better:
first time to play that close to the ocean

Thanks for the vote of confidence though.
