It's shocking 'down under'...

OK. So what's the funniest thing you've seen happen on a/the course - one you laugh about every time you think of it?

Mine was quite some time back - on the same hole as in the 'How low can you go?' thread - a mate smacked his ball over the same, relatively low-amperage/voltage, 4 - 5 ft, farm-style electric fence running the length of the 2-nd. We all proceeded trekking down the fairway whilst W took the detour to his lie - managing to spot his ball about 20 meters outbound of the fence. "Hey, look - it's not live!" he hollered at us (contemplating a ball recovery) as he ‘tap-tapped’ the wires with his driver’s shaft - “no sparks!” We don't know exactly what happened but he ‘re-tested’ it, when suddenly there was a chilling "yeeeeeeck!!!" as he 'goose-jumped' sideways... 'flick-flacking' his club right over the fence in the process. This was followed by a strange little rendition of 'Riverdance' "%*& eina!" -"*!?@$!!!" But now his ball and club were lying in the wrong camp. After regaining his composure from the *@$%* nasty bite” - and determined to retrieve both items - he coerced one of us to hoist the not-too-taught bottom wires with a wooden stick so he could ‘leopard-crawl’ through underneath it. But between the two of them (and in between all the laughing) he managed to get shocked again - this time ‘round about the gluteus maximus area. Ever seen someone 'leopard-accelerate' out of a 'situation' at 100 mph? By this time we were all hysterical with laughter, so it’s a miracle he didn’t get zapped again on ‘re-entry’. But it was classic, and I still laugh when I think about it today.

LOL!! That's a hot shot fence we see a lot of around cattle. My parents have one to keep their cows in certain areas. It doesn't run continuous electricity... it pulses a burst of electricity however often you have it set to pulse. Every other second or so is common, so he probably touched it during the non-pulse second and then caught the pulse the next time around. That is hilarious!! My step-dad doesn't play much golf, but I'm going to relay this story to him because I know he'll die laughing!!

Thanks for the story!!

I don't have that many comical stories...my brother and I have gotten our fair share of carts stuck in mud when we were kids, but nothing that can compare to zapping your gluteus maximus on a hot shot fence!!!

You're 100% right Tex, it's a course-in-the-country - cows & horses all over the show (I have a pic of it - the hole with fence & animals in question - but couldn't upload it). So you guys call it a hot shot fence huh? Ironically, this mate it happened to isn't much of a golfer either - he just borrowed a couple of clubs to come with 3 of us **** for the day. Guess he could have told his lady what a shocking round he had!
