Halloween - Trick or Treating

At what age do you think kids should quit going out trick or treating ? It seems when I was younger, nobody over the age of 13-14 or so bothered with it. I've noticed more older kids over the years, some looked to be in their late teens. My son passed on it last year at 14, but he says that he and a couple of friends are going this year. At 15, he's been shaving for a year and could pass for at least 17. I've gently tried to talk him out of it, but he says he wants the candy and I figure it's not that big of a deal so I'm leaving it up to him. What do you folks think ?

12 to 14 is old enough. I was stunned last year when we had a lot of kids who appeared to be at least 17 or 18, they probably need the candy the least.

As far as talking him out of it . . . good luck!

My son is 16. He's going T-or-T-ing with a couple of friends for maybe an hour or two.
Then they're heading out to a teen Halloween party for another couple of hours.

He's a good kid, loves to have fun, and is enjoying the last part of his childhood.

Plus, Mom and Dad get the Milky Way's (her) and Butterfingers (me!)

It's the candy, man...

I quit about age 12, but I also was married at 19. IMO, I'd let him do it, I think it's good today when kids can still just be kids. His peers will probably make the decision of when to stop though!

I stopped at 24. It's my wife's B-day and we've been together since we were 16 so it was a tradition.

It got to the point where the neighbors would just give me beers. :-P

I quit at 13. The fun behind it wore off, and for the most part i've just sat at home since. The day means very little to me anymore, my belief that it is something for younger kids to enjoy. That said, i'm pretty sure i remember my sister still going as of last year (14, now 15)... and i have to think that the only reason she isn't going this year is because she's apparently working that night. By the sounds of things, she was intending to wear a bit of a costume to work... i wouldn't be surprised if the boss had a word or two with her for that. I guess the only reason I don't really complain about her trick or treating is that I could always just meander into her room in the ensuing days, and raid her stash. Whether she liked it or not, if i found it appealing, it was gone... I call this the rite of passage of the older sibling.

Of course now that i'm away at school and can't steal her candy anymore, i don't really care whether she goes or not... funny how that works, isn't it?
