Muddy Waters...the Stones were in town and Mick Jagger and Keith Richards showed up for Muddy's show, and they did some jammin'. The "concert" was in a bar so it was a great time. Also have to rank Crosby, Still, Nash, and Young up there.
I've been to a few really good ones. Eagles, Newsboys (Christian rock.. really good performance), and embarrassingly enough..... Michael Jackson... long long long long pre molestation charges time ago.
Metallica. .... And Justice for All tour. Warrior Soul, Bonham and Dio opened for them, in that order. Dio was the only other band I saw, because I wasn't going to sit through an hour of Bonham.
OK, in that case what is the loudest great concert you've been to?
Gov't Mule . . . a three piece power trio at the time . . . now a four piece rock band . . . was 1998 . . . at the Fillmore in San Francisco . . . the show lasted over three hours . . . and the longer the show went on the louder it go . . . my wife stood behind me with one ear on my back and felt the heavy vibration of the bass and drums going directly thru me . . . and yes, we wore earplugs . . .
They're not quite as loud now . . . but they still are earschplittinloudenboomer!!!
I haven't missed Gov't Mule a show since! Actually, I've never missed a Mule show . . .
They are probably the best live show in the universe . . . at the moment.
Matt Abts, Drums; Warren Haynes, Guitar/voice; Andy Hess, Bass; Danny Louis, Keyboards, voice
I have tix in hand for next month . . . at the Fillmore again!

Best? A tough one...most memorable...a tie between U2 at RFK in DC when I was 16 and working for a concert security company (I was a big kid)...I worked the gate then was shuttled to the stage where I had the band's view of the crowd...amazing...the other one was a hardcore show in DC at a small club...I was 15 and the Cro-Mags were in town from NY...nothing spectacular in retrospect, only that they were my favorite band at the time, and nothing is sweeter to a 15 year old who rocks a walkman with their favorite cassette all day to actually see the band whose cannon of lyrics they have memorized...
...and that show included my first mosh pit, stage dive and pit fight!
Dio was the only other band I saw, because I wasn't going to sit through an hour of Bonham.
Prefer the father, not the son? Or is it that a drummer can't be the star of a band? The Foo Fighters are fighting that fight, but who wants to sit through an hour of them either.

I didn't care for the video clip they had out at the time, + I had heard some reviews from friends who had seen an earlier concert: I was told that the 'fans' at the earlier concert pretty much 'washed' Bonham off the stage with their beers!
