I'm struggling with them, too, LG! Maybe someone on this board who's fluent in Spanish can help a little! Years ago, I could read a little Spanish, but my limitations now are painfully obvious.
Anyway, the lyrics aren't strictly logical; they're poetic (smarmy poetry, some might say; not me, but then I'm a sucker for this kind of thing). Basically I see this song as an expression of hope, that we are in a kind of spring (primavera) and that like the seed (como la semilla) is or brings about new life (nueva vida), so (Hay) in this spring (en esta primavera) is a new time (una nueva era). A time when things will be better.
It's a song of hope. I play it in my car (loud) on the way to work if I have a tough day coming up. The song stays in my head all day long.
GG, I don't know if this would be a good present for your mom. To me, there are too many different kinds of songs on this CD. (Santana recorded it with several different artists.) It would be a very unusual person who would like all of the songs on the CD.
The HUGE hit that came out of this CD was the song "Smooth," which is why I bought this in the first place. When I heard "Primavera" I couldn't understand why THAT song wasn't the big hit. Possibly because the lyrics aren't in English, and it's harder to understand.
As I said, some of the songs on the CD aren't very good (IMO). And Carlos Santana's playing on those songs seems uninspired. Sounds as if he's "mailing in" his performance. Just getting through the song. But "Primavera" seems to really appeal to him. He plays with immense passion and intensity on this song. And he's such a good guitarist, the song is kind of a lesson in how to play lead guitar in a way that burns down the house.
