Question Did you Know??

A thread about facts. Sort of a "did you know" (DYK) from sports center except it doesn't have to be about sports.

DYK that a blue whale's heart is the size of a small car?

Everyone knows that "internet facts" are not always factual.....don't we?

Here's an example...: "The flea can jump 350 times its body length, that is like a human jumping the length of a football field."

Even assuming the average human is 5 feet tall (a bit on the short side I would guess) and jumped 350 times their body length....that's 1,750 feet. A football field is 360 feet long, from end line to end line.

Or taking this to mean 350 times what the average human can jump.....Even using a human jump of 3 feet means a total distance of 1,050 feet, or almost 3 football fields.

I'm not being critical of anyone trying to have a little fun.....just don't believe everything you read on the internet!

LG, I actually saw something about the longest jumper on the nature channel and you're correct. They took a flea's jumping ability and if applied to a human, we could leap over the Brooklyn Bridge. The 350 times number refers to the body height. I believe that is actually accurate but the person who came up with that didn't measure correctly when it came to the football field.
