Well looks like Jimsombody is closing in fast on his Green Jacket. Jim let me give you a early Congrats on the Green Jacket, (hope this does not bring you back luck ) You truly are a great guy, and every time I see you Avatar I just think that is a person that I would enjoy a round of golf with even if the Avatar is not you it would still be a honor to play a round of golf with you. So here's to a great guy
Thanks, Halk! I'm better in print than I am in person , so I appreciate those kind words. And remember, I asked to be partnered with you in the OG vs YG matches. I think our combined 100+ years of life experience would serve us well against any two young whippersnappers they could throw at us.
Anyway, my ETA on No. 1000 seems to be Feb 23. If I don't choke!
Well, it took almost an entire day to get that last one, but JimSomebody finally broke the 1000 post barrier and joins the growing list of Golf Rewind members to earn the venerable Green Jacket. The wisdom, knowledge and wit that you've displayed in your first 1000 posts has been enjoyable, Jim, and I look forward to seeing you reach for that next 1000. Hats off to you!
Halk, you were kind enough to start this thread, and I intended to put my 1K post here, but some moderator business required that post to go elsewhere. So, I'll put Post No. 1001 here instead.
Took me a while to get to the Green Jacket (just call me Craig Wood... took him a while to get his Green Jacket, too), and who knows how long it'll be till I'm hoisting the US Open trophy, so I better take this occasion to say a few words to my adoring public. (FYI, that's an example of my self-effacing humor.)
First, I've got to thank GR's founder and owner, victory, for establishing this site and doing what he does to keep it going for all of us. He's not a looming presence here, but make no mistake: he is the man. I've been intrigued by his vision since I first heard about GR while I was an increasing disgruntled member at ESPN's so-called golf board. victory's vision of a family-friendly forum for civil discussion has been a welcome relief for me. Sure, the "language fairways" here are pretty tight, but we're golfers: we proudly play the course as we find it.
Next, I want to thank all moderators, past and present, for being comrades in arms. For me, and probably for all mods, the mod role changes your relationship to GR and its members somewhat. Things can get a little more complicated, and part of your GR time becomes work, which (like any job) can entail some stress at times. But I, and I assume all mods, willingly contribute effort for the good of the community. It's a worthwhile investment.
Finally, I sincerely thank the GR membership at large. If I start naming names, I'll get into trouble with someone I accidentally leave out. But I'm happy that a lot of the good guys from ESPN have turned up here; I love it that we have good representation from my two favorite parts of the US (PA, especially Philly area; Minnesota and bordering states); I always enjoy hearing from our Euro colleages, and if I've left you out, then I need to hear from you most of all, because my ignorance is showing. People here have been just great.
OK, there is one person I will name specifically: everyone's favorite kid sister (or in some cases, favorite granddaughter), girlgolfa. Nobody's quite like you, GG. A while ago, GG copied my avatar and used her artistic abilities to create some amusing variations on the JimSomebody image. That got me thinking about what I might be able to do with that aging face. So thank you, GG, for inspiring a newer and younger JS. Next I need to get my handicap to drop like yours is!
OK, I know there's a jacket around here somewhere...
Congrats Jimsomebody! Although I may not post as much as others, I have truely enjoyed the 7 months I have been a member of Golf Rewind and would like to thank you and jcgolfpro for leading myself and others here from that pathetic ESPN board. Here's to another 1,000 friendly posts
Congratulations, Jim! I think I'll always remember that small conversation we had over at the ESPN board and now look at where we are. 1,000 posts and a Green Jacket! You've been an integral part towards making that "vision" a reality.
