Kind of similar to Kuvasz's thread, but was just wondering.
We have many ppl at our club who have no desire to get better at the game, they are there only for the social aspect of it. In fact, i'm starting to see more women being competitive and less social while more men are becoming more social and less competitive.
I don't play just for the social aspect of it. If I don't try and compete, I just don't play well. Must stay focused or game deterioates.
Now baseball was fun and competitive. Didn't have to work hard at that, it just flowed, but this game of golf sometimes gets to be work, lol.
Both I guess... I play for fun a lot, sometimes I just count how many birdies I can make, other times I don't keep score, or I'll just work on shots, messing around with my trajectory, or hitting fades and draws. Sometimes I'll play without my woods, it changes the course a lot.
But I also play in tournaments and really enjoy competitive golf, both in tournaments and with friends...
I never understood the people who play purely socially. I've know guys that play everyday and have no interest in improving, they don't care. I don't understand that, if I'm going to do something on a regular basis, whatever it is, I want to be good at it, or at least be getting better.
Definitly competitive....
I never really play for the fun of it, I always have to keep score and play against other people and try really hard to beat them!
I just like how you can improve alot in the game.. I guess.
I've always been really competitive at every sport I've played, I can't help it... I just like to win lol
I'm probably more social than competitive. Sure I like to improve but I've pretty much stopped practicing. I just go out to have a good time, few beers and a laugh with the boys. I do still play the odd big tournament when I'm persuauaded but I don't go out of my way too. My fav game on the course is calling each others shot. Great fun
I would be neither. I play a lot alone, but I am out there for fun. I don't mind being out there by myself, I just enjoy the game. When I am playing with friends, we keep score and do some gambling, so then it would be both social and competitive. I spend a couple hours a week at the range, and while I would like to get better, I am not going to stop playing just because my scores don't drop dramatically.
Both, sort of. Even when I am playing for fun I still want to beat the person I am playing with. We do have events where it is more social though and I relax and just enjoy the round.
A little of both, although probably slightly more competitive than social. Really it depends who I'm playing with. There are certain people I'll call up if I'm looking for a fun round, and others if I want to have a little competition. Naturally every would like to get better, but some have a little more desire to. After my interest in the game waned a bit last year it's back up and ready to go this year, so I'm definitely not out for the pure fun of it this year.
Social, but there's always a little bit of comp. I would like to try to get some buddys together and play some charity tournments where it's meant to be fun but you team is still competing for prizes
Both. I've been in leagues and on school teams in the past. When our whole 4-some is able to get together we usually have something going on... very small stakes. It keeps it fun, but competitive. I'm always trying to get better, but until I'm at a point in my life where I'm able to get out more than once or maybe twice a week in season, there's a limit to how much I'll be able to improve.
I would saw I play for both. I play in outings for work and that is social and competitive. 99% of these outings are scramble so you can't judge how you individually play but you always want your team to do well. When I play regularly I don't play matches or tournaments but I am always trying to shoot a score and trying to improve. I always gauge my play based on how I score. I never just go out an play without keeping score. I used to be more competitive when I played in a golf league but haven't done that for a couple of years.
For me the whole thing depends on who I play with. If I am solo or with 1 friend I tend to go out and try new shots and work the ball different ways. When I go with a group my competitive juices get flowing and I want to win. Either way is ok with me, I just love to play.
I don't know if I'm truly competitive with anyone but myself. I still like the occasional lax round with a buddy, but I'm always trying to better my best round.
but we all have to remember, it's not the person your playing against, its the course that you are bringing to it's knee's, lol. unless it's match play, which is a whole lot of fun, which can be frustrating to say the least when your opponent is getting the breaks, like hitting a tree and landing on the green.
I am deffently more competive then relaxed. I like being competive I just find it more fun. Me and my friends play for small things like yesterday. It was 3 people and we were playing for a candy bar hahaha or a drink of something. But I do find it more fun then just going out and playing. If i go out by myself or something then I just try different shots and stuff.
A little of both. I'm a recreational golfer. The only tournaments I've played in were scrambles. But I'm always trying to win my 4somes weekly skins game.
