Handicap

I understand how to obtain one

Is the handicap system the same in the UK as it is in the USA

It's just that some people from the USA on here have said that they have a handicap of 11.1 or 20.2 , and i never thought that you could get a something . something handicap

Because i have never heard anyone at my golf club talk about it

That is their handicap INDEX. The index allows one to travel from course to course and look it up on a chart that would indicate your actual handicap for that particular course and set of tees. In the UK, you use the UHS (Unified Handicapping System) where you have an Exact Handicap which would be our Index and a Playing Handicap which would be the whole number. The systems differ in the way they allocate the whole number...we determine our course handicap from a chart that takes into account the difficulty where the UHS simply rounds the Exact up or down to the nearest whole number. For much more information check out the handicapping authority site for the UK...http://www.congu.com/home.asp
