Speaking of that what do think about the USGA taking away amateur status if you win a prize for a hole in one in a tournament??? I never liked that rule, I knew a guy that was a 15 handicap who won a car in a tournament and had to give up playing in amateur tourneys for a year...
I think the USGA is reviewing that rule. The rule was brought to light again a year or so ago when Tiger gave away Buick SUV's to a couple of people that he "surprised" on a Par 3 by offering the keys to anyone that could get it closer to the hole than he did. Remember the commercials?
Or....you can always decline the prize and not have to worry about your amateur status.
0'0", holed it......but never seen it go in. I hit into an elevated green, could only see the top halve of the stick. Thougth it rolled off the green till someone looked into the hole.
About 2 weeks ago in a tournament I holed my first ace to a 150 yard par 3 with a 9 iron, never saw it go in but the people up around the green said you better look in the hole, never been so excited in my life
Once I dunked a ball into the water on #8 here at the home course to which I wasn't pleased...Out of disappointment I was on my way to drop and stopped at the red tees(77 yds), dropped a ball and proceeded to have it lip out with my 60* wedge and stop about 4 inches from the hole...Kinda eased the pain of the previous water ball...
I have made one! 219 yards into the wind with my old 3-wood
Closest call is no doubt when I was playing a charity event 4 years ago. Every hole was shortened to a par 3 & there was a wicked hole in one prize on every hole. It was the 5th, 156 yards, $15,000 for an ace. I hit an 8-iron right at it, the ball smashed the side of the cup & sat on the lip. The spotter came running onto the green because she thought it went in!
last week was my closest.. i was playing at a local public course.. the 7th hole.. par 3 135.. downhil, surrounded by water... i hit a 9-iron.. i hit it and it was a little right, but it started to drift to the left, as i saw it coming down it looked dead on the flag.. the ball literally looked like it bounced in the **** hole and came out, i lost sight of it for a second. ended up like 7 inches past the hole.. i tapped in for birdie... when i got to the green i was walkin past the flag andi noticed that i actually took a chunk out of the hole.. the right side was sorta caved in.. explaining why i lsot it for a second. i guess it hit the right edge, went in and popped back out or something. very bizarre.. i almost hit the ball in the hole on the fly. haha.. :) it was painful knowing i was so close to an ace. but i was happy i atleast got a birdie :)

In college I was playing a round against fellow teammates for the final spot on the varsity squad for the upcoming tournament. On a 180yd hole I hit the lip on the fly and it stopped about 6 inches away.......I TC Chen'd the putt (double hit it) from 6 inches for a par 3.......I went on to win the last spot anyway, but that upset me at the moment.
Final hole at my home course here at Shaw. Par 3 18th, 161 yards, downhill about 50-55ft, if not more. Stuck it 2 in right of the cup with a front green placement. My jaw dropped. The ball never moved out of the divot. lol
