on the throne, reading a Golf Magazine, and I was wondering...I've often said that I think most of the mainstream golf magazines are great for entertainment values, but I don't take much of the game improvement sections too seriously. If these magazines are writing these articles from folks they claim to be Top 100 Teachers in the country, maybe I should at least give them a try...That is of course, unless they contradict what my Pro is telling me in person that seems to be working. But, then I think again, what would it hurt to give these tips a shot on the range/bunker/putting green??? Now, I'm not real sure what I think about the tips section. I mean, these instructors most likely know what they're doing...What do some of you think about this grand epiphany that I've discovered?
I know when I used to read Golf Digest, I would read what I thought was a really good tip, then a month or two later, the tip would say the exact opposite.
Then again, there are so many variables, ball forward or back, strong or weak grip, fade or draw, etc.
This is the reason I quit reading golf magazines. I did find the shot/course management tips more helpful than the instruction.
Not too sure about the golf magazines but I do watch a lot of the videos on TGC (probably the same instructors). What I've noticed is that a lot of them really have conflicting philosophies and instructions. I try to pick and choose the tips that I think are applicable to me and most of the times I find that they can help but it's no substitute for time with an instructor.
I'm actually waiting for jc to respond so I can pitch my not-so-secret, secret plan to him...That plan includes him actually teaching me how to play the game...LOL!
After reading these tips, I would suggest trying them out during the YG/OG match. If they are coming from Top 100 instructors, they must be good. No need to practice, just take your issue of Golf Digest with you out on the course and give it a rip
