I'm wondering how far some of the members of OG drove the ball.
I was playing with a friend and we got paired with two guys, probably in their late 40s early 50s. I dont really take the game too seriously, just get out when i can to have a few beers and fun with friends, but im 6' with an athletic build. These guys were old looking, not very strong looking either. But man oh man, were they blasting the heck out of the ball. I usually drive it maybe 240-260 with a solid strike, including roll. They were always 20 yards past me, at least. I finally went after one and got a hold of it (with some wind at my back) and got it out there 290. I thought to myself, "finally!" Then they proceded to outdrive me by 10 and 15 yards. They were quite good (i think 1 and 3 over through 9) so i figured they were serious golfers who practiced a lot. But why are these guys old enough to be my dad outdriving me!!!!?!?!?
you sly old folk.

We're sneaky like that
If I could be 240-260 out every time I would be fat(fatter) and happy.
I have an uncle who is over 60 years old and on average, he'll drive it around 270. I'm usually fairly long compared to the people I usually play with but he manages to outdrive me on pretty much every hole.
We have a guy that is 80 years old at our course and plays the gold tees but hits it 280 to 300 yards off the tee. He isn't very tall but is still strong as an ox. It's just wonderful to watch his drives. He really doesn't swing hard either. I think the shaft in that driver must fit him just perfect because he is not long with his irons.
I don't know what's worse, having 'old' guys out-driving you or, in my case, my 13 yr old son is just about the same length as me (I'm 50), and he weighs about as much at one of my legs (I'm 6' 230 lbs, used to weight lift and benchpress 400-lbs back when I was 25, so I consider myself still 'athletic'). Last weekend we went head to head on the front 9.....and I've been hitting longer than I ever have, too. Anyway, on about 6 drives, we're even on about 2, I beat him by 10-ft on another 2 and he beats me on another by a few feet (I'm hitting about 250-265)....must be those skinny waists...I better start working on that, lol.

I have a friend who use to do LD. He's almost 60, about 5 foot 6 140 lbs but can get it out there 280-300. On the other hand I'm 29, 6 foot tall and weight 175 lbs but poke it out there 260-270.

Thats just silly. My goodness. 80 year old, 300 yards booms! WOW.
It's the technology nowadays... It's getting out of control!
Some of these courses can't even keep up with how far everyone can hit the ball now. We have a couple par 5's where I play which are under 500 yds and they are a joke. There is no room to move the tee boxes back either. They should just make them par 4's and make the course a par 70...
What difference does "Par" make? Don't we count total strokes and not the number over, or under, par we are? Would changing those Par 5's to Par 4's change a score?
Well, the PGA does count strokes, but when I see the leader board, I see + or -, and not the actual number of strokes.
Also, if you are playing an executive course, that is a par 64, and you post to tell everyone at GR you shot 70, most people would thing you are 2 under, and not 6 over.
So, by changing a par 5 to a par 4, it would change your score in relation to par.
