Handicap Question

When posting a score on GHIN, what difference does it make that it is in a tournament? Are those scores counted differently? Are they weighted higher/lower? If it says somewhere on the GHIN site, I can't find it.

I don't know what GHIN stand for, but either way I don't think it matters if it is in a tourney or not.

Tournament rounds don't count in the handicap calculations. However, in organized tournament play, golf tournament commitee will penalize you if you have no low scores amongst your 20 listed, but continually shoot below your index in tournament play. It also can help to have a couple higher tournament scores for sandbagging defenses. The "tournament" scores are just where the commitee looks first in inquisition.

The system keeps track of the Tournament Scores and keeps them for 12 months. It is a check and balance aimed to defeat sandbaggers that post higher scores in the month(s) leading up to a tournament (such as a club championship if they are in a handicap flight). The two lowest Tournament Score differentials are calculated and the second lowest is then subtracted from the USGA Handicap Index. If the result is greater than 3.0, the system will then follow a few other steps to lower your index based on Exceptional Tournament Scores.
