Lake Merced Golf Club
I had the opportunity to play at this private course in Northern California yesterday. This is a private course located south of San Francisco about a mile from the Pacific. It's a beautiful course and by far the nicest I have ever set foot on. The best part about it was that the course was closed to members that day. We have a connection with one of the employees who got us on out there. We saw only 4 other golfers the whole round.
This course is unreal - the fairways look like putting greens! Anyway, I played very well and it was a fantastic experience. Have any of you California guys/ gals ever played here?

No, I haven't played there but, I get to play Poppy Hills with my club every year! OK, so my score there was 108. It was a great day and is a fantastic course to play.

In 1982 I worked at Olympic Club right next door and got to play at Lake Merced CC a lot. Great track with mature trees everywhere. But the best course around there (around the Lake) is San Francisco CC. No golf carts were allowed and it was just incredible. I still think Presidio in San Diego (by Old Town) ranks with Cypress Point as my all time favorite with Fort Ord, La Purisma and Los Angeles CC close behind. Green fees of $10 are super and the subtleties and variations of shots you face are just out of this world. All you need is a putter and sandwedge so real easy to walk. Only takes an hour to play which is cool. Sometimes I buy an all day pass and just go around and around, breaking only for killer Mexican food at Old Town. SHIVAS IRONS LIVES!!
