using putter like pool cue?

are there any rules that prevent getting on your knees and using a putter like a pool cue(hitting with the butt end)? My buddy did it the other day jokingly, is it illegal?

It is indeed illegal. Rule 14-1 states that " The ball must be fairly struck at with the head of the club and must not be pushed, scraped or spooned."

Also against the rules for your body to be on the extended line of the putt ala Sam Snead. However, I'd have had to put another ball down for him and tell him if he can carom it in then it's good...if not, ya lose the hole. :)

Rules of the Game

LiquidChill,

In reading your posts I can see that you are enthusiastic about the game and that's great. May I suggest you find the 2004-2005 USGA RULES OF GOLF and spend a few minutes, in your spare time, looking through it. The vast majority of golfers don't know the rules as well as we should but by reading the rule book we can all improve our knowledge and enjoyment of the game. When you think you've got the 34 rules down pat get the USGA DECISIONS ON THE RULES OF GOLF book (507 pages) and discover, like the rest of us, just how little we really know!

Rules Leaguegolf, how little we really know is true. I've been playing over fifty years and know the rules pretty good but every time I play I find a situation where I ll ask myself " I wonder what the rule is?".

I've been penalised before.
Because I thought I'ld just tap in my short putt, and I didn't want to step on there line so i put one of my feet behind the putterhead....aparently you can't do that and I lost the hole.
