In the Zone

Today I had one of those rare days when every shot I took, it felt like it was perfect. No matter what club I used I was striping the ball. It is days like this at the range that always keep me coming back for more. I hope this good karma continues. Any of you have any range stories where you can do no wrong and hit every shot just as you imagined? I hope this "zone" I was in transfers to the course.....highly unlikely I know.

I was actually on the course 2 days ago and I hadn't hit a ball in 2 weeks and ended up shooting a 3 over 74. It seemed like I would look at the spot I wanted to hit and the ball would go there. The only downside was my putting. I missed 6 birdie putts.

Yes, just this past Friday I had a 12 hole stretch to finish my round where I hit my driver an average of 20 yards farther than I typically do, and had 8 birdie putts within 10 feet of the hole. Unfortunately I only made one of them but it's an amazing feeling to be able to step up to each shot and fire at the flag with confidence.

I didn't know that was possible...maybe at the driving range where you assume you hit it where you were thinking of. A very short memory or not bothering to try to hit it anywhere in particular helps.

Well, I know how the ups and downs go. One day I went out, played nine holes, and shot six over. Just couldn't play well. Then a few days later, went out after work (I work at a golf course), and I shot a 2 under on 5 holes! Unfortunately it was so dark, I couldn't even see the ball. So I had to stop. But I drained a thirty footer for birdie, which is just about as likely for me as marrying Elin Nordegren.

I never hit as far or as good on the range as when I get out on the course.

One time at one of my matchplay comps I played in, I was hitting some irons on the practice fairway and there was this lady I know beside me, she was topping and thinning most of her shots then when she goes out on the course and shoots 2 over.... I'm like .... maybe I should start off by hitting bad shots in practice!

Sometimes I think hitting it really well before the round makes me lazy out on the course... Today before the round I couldn't miss with my driver, but out on the course I think I had one good one... on the other hand, I shan...(well you know) my lob wedge for about a quarter of the bucket, it was getting embarrassing... but I figured it out and I think it upped my focus for those shots and I hit some good ones on the course... it's a funny game

I have those range days All the Time! I can recall several range sessions where people will approach me, and comment about how I'm striping it, or start talking about the golf swing mechanics.

Unfortunately - it's rare that I take it to the course. Generally - if I"m striping it on the range BEFORE a round, that's very dangerous.

I also usually play very poorly if I do unusually well at the range minutes before...

I think you get over confident and lose focus.

I never hit it very well on the range either. If I'm hitting it well when I'm just out hitting balls, I know something's working right. Typically I have to be playing a round to be able to focus on hitting the shot at hand. Practicing (at least full swings, not short game or putting) is a waste of my time unless I want to play worse the next time out.
