Does golfing bring $$$?

My ultimate goal is to play golf as a career. I was wondering on the average, how much do ametuers make starting off on their career? Do all amatuers get sponsors to play or do they have to cough out their own money to enter tournaments first? Can anyone in here that are making a career playing golf help me out on my journey?

Sorry to break the bad news to you golfwannabe but amateurs don't get paid to play golf. If your get paid to play, you're considered a professional.

To answer the questions you posed in ths thread title.....Golf brings $$$ if you're good enough and it's harder for some than it is for others. How hard is it for you?

professional golf will bring money...as long as you can play with the best. these days, its tough to get into golf as a career. first off, there are AJGA guys shooting 67s all day long. i'm talking about 16-17 year olds too. you'd have to eat/sleep/breathe golf, and that in itself is tough as is.

It's a great career, however, it's very hard to get up to the tour level, and then the income is very unreliable (unless you're on the top of the tour.)

the chances of making it on the Tour is the same as making it to a CEO position of a Fortune 500

How old and how good are you now? And how much, honestly, do you love golf?

The pro-tours are like a gameshow really. If you can make a living at it great. You get sponsored and are a walking, swinging advertisment. But there are plenty of struggling players trying to make it on a 20k year salary. It just like any other business, only highly specialized, highly skilled, but a dream to most. Reading the profiles of pro golfers, most start at a young age between 3-8.
