Nobody walks any more...most "high end" clubs don't even allow it, unless you rent a caddy. The trail fees are for cart road repairs and storage refers to cart sheds.
Shade
shaderunner,
Are these fees for owning and storing your own cart, or is everyone playing this course subject to the same fees?
Courses here charge a "trail fee" in addition to a green fee to those who bring and drive their own cart . . . somewhat less than renting the cart from the golf course.
I live in Chicago and we have a plethora of courses to choose from. From goat-track munis to DubsDread, where they play the Western Open each year. There are so many courses here, it's great. I probably play 50-60 rounds a year and probably play 15-20 different courses.
My current favorite is Thunderhawk, up near the Wisconsin border. A Robert Trent Jones, Jr. design in a Audobon approved sanctuary. Beatiful, fun course.
40% of the time: The city course at a Minneapolis-St.Paul suburb. This is where my men's club plays (about 10 events per year). It's my "home course" for hdcp purposes. Slope: 125 from middle tees. The course doesn't set up that well for me (too many right-to-left shots for a righthanded fader like me), but it's convenient to home, the people there are good, and the course is tight, so I've had to learn to hit with some accuracy.
Another 40% of the time: City courses in Minneapolis and St. Paul. These courses are less expensive and not as well maintained. But many of them were built in the 1930s and have a bygone-era feel to them. Also, I meet people (nice people) that I might not otherwise meet. You can learn a lot about a person from playing a round of golf with him.
Remaining 20% of the time: Upscale daily-fee courses in the Twin Cities suburbs. I play these with guys I work with. Nice courses that usually beat us up pretty good.
I play my golf at Alliance country club. http://www.alliancecountryclub.com/
Its a rather difficult course if your not hitting your ball straight. The greens used to be an 11 on the speed meter but now its closer to an 8 and that kind of bums me out. It has lost its reign as having the fastest greens in the area. My lowest round here is a 74. (+4)
I play at several courses down here in South Florida. I mostly play Palmetto Golf Course - Owned by the city and it's 20.00 riding after 2 oclock now with the time change. Gets packed after 2:30.
Or.... If I am pressed for time and/or just want to play a simple 9 hole course - either a full 9 or the mini executive length par 3, I go to Windy Hill.
I almost always play at Indian Creek Golf Course in Hood River, OR. Pretty fun course and well maintained, plus it is (currently) the only nice course within 45 minutes of my house. I sure wouldn't mind a little variety but I am just happy to have a nice reasonably priced course to play locally. I am going to try to get out to Portland to play some nicer courses such as Pumpkin Ridge and the Reserve this summer but I would usually need to make a day of it to do that as it is 1-1/2 hours each way to those courses. It does make for a nice day though - wife shops while I play golf and then we meet up for a nice dinner that evening.
My home course is Foothills Golf Course in Jefferson County, Colorado (SW Denver Metro area). The facility has an 18 hole, par 72 championship course, a par 32 Executive 9 hole course, and a par 27, 9 hole par 3 course. There is also an excellent grass practice range, .... the grass hitting area is a good 100 yards wide, making room for a large number of golfers. The practice area also has a nice chipping/pitching area with 2 greens and a bunker. And over by the 1st tee is a large putting green. There is also a separate roped off area of the practice tee for lessons.
Pittsburgh pretty well ***** for golf. Lots of courses that could double as pasture. I usually head over the border into Ohio to play The Links at Firestone Farms. Very, very good course. Relatively new and very reasonably priced. Why more people fro the 'burgh here don't travel there to play is beyond me. Only 45 mins away for me. I think it's that the general populus of the 'burgh is comprised of, well... idiots.
