I've played the two other courses, Shenandoah (Rick Smith) and Kaluhyat (Robert Trent Jones Jr.) at Turning Stone and look forward to playing Atunyote. These are beautiful courses and Turning Stone is working hard to create a true Golf destination.
I recently read that the PGA Tour does not allow casinos to be host sponsors.
I was in Miami for work, and had the opportunity of a lifetime. One of the suppliers for the company I worked for took a few of us to Doral. I will always remember being able to play the Blue Monster.
played saturday at The Moors, Champions tour plays the Blue Angel Classic there...
Shot 77 but it is a par 70 course. Great shape, fast greens and rolled true, would have been better but when you play the first time somewhere......well you may think you can carry a hazard.....ya know? had 2 doubles but i will do better next time thats for sure.
At my wife's office Christmas party in 1983 , her boss sidled over to me and asked me what I had planned for Feb. 27 . I told him it was wide open - he said keep it that way , 'cause thats the day you are gonna play the Augusta National . I kept it open !The group met and ate at the Green Jacket (a steakhouse now defunct across Washington Road from the National) . The member that took us had asked my wife's boss to speak at the Rotary , and as a thank you told him to bring a group out . I got to follow him past the gate and down Magnolia Lane . We changed shoes in the Champions Locker Room and then walked down a hall to the pro shop - I coulda gandered in the hall for an hour - various clubs on display that Champions had used in various Masters . I didn't buy anything in the pro shop , but I have been to many Masters tournament and practice rounds , so the merchandise was no big deal to me . But then it was out the door to the first tee . The member said hit til yer happy and promptly launched 3 drives . I stepped up and even though I don't believe my feet were touching the ground , I busted one over the corner trap , leaving a 9 iron into the green ( I should mention I was a scratch golfer and long hitter - now I am a 2-3 hdcp but pretty long for 52 years) . The 9 iron hit near the pin and sucked back off the front - bogey . My caddy made his lone mistake at 3 , where he handed me a driver as I walked to 2 green and took off down 3 before I could think about it . I did like Tiger a few yrs ago and put it in the right trees - no lefthanded shots followed but a double bogey did . At the sixth tee , my caddy handed me a six iron and said, "don't leave any of it up here", so I ripped it and nearly holed it . I also almost holed a trap shot on 9 green , but turned in 41 . I hit it in the back fringe and parred 12, then birdied 13 and 15 . On 16 I was at green front fringe and the pin was in the Masters Sunday position - my caddy says hit my chip firmly, you're going into the grain . Well I hadn't noticed any grain anywhere so I hit it normal and sure enuff 10 feet short . I finished with a 41-37 =78 . The greens were nowhere near Masters speed and the fairways were actually a little hairy , but what a great day . Heres the bad part . The member shot 81 so he was decent . The other 2 guys were customers of the boss and from Minnesota or something and couldnt play a lick of golf , likely shooting 120-130 . There were only like 3 groups on the whole course , but around #7 we had to let a group of three members play through and they ribbed my member pretty good about the slow play , so I knew no matter what my member would only remember the day for that and I had no chance of another invite . The wifes boss had given me his spot - he had played many times - and it turned out he got subpoenaed to testify in a court case that day - what a choice that would be - contempt of court would be a small price to pay for a round at the National! I still have my scorecard ......
