On the first day of a 3 day golf trip last week, I played 36 holes with a guy who was using a Spin Doctor wedge. Unbelievable!! That club had to save him 5-6 strokes per round easily. Picture this scenario: steep downhill lie in deep rough to a pin 25 yards away cut 6 paces in on fast green sloping steeply away from you. Now picture hitting a fairly low trajectory pitch that hits pin-high on the green, then abrubtly stops dead 3 feet from the pin after taking one hop. How about hitting a 15 yard flop out of the rough that flies 5 feet past the hole and actually spins back past the hole?
Luckily, we were using the first day scores to handicap the next 2 days' competitions(he was unaware of that), so we didn't say anything to him about the illegal club. My advice: never play anyone for money if they use a wedge with a black insert on the face.
