On Sunday afternoon I played a old muni course on the lake without my sticks. I had no intention of playing this weekend, which was totally my fault, so I left my clubs at home. After a short convincing from my buddy, I call the course and find out they have a rental set, so off we go. Upon arriving at the course, I see the sticks they give me to use consist of an old, beaten up set of Nomad's...I had a 3 wood, pw, sw, 9 iron, 6 iron, 3 iron, and luckily an old putter of mine in my car...This was absolutely the worst rental set I've ever seen. They looked like they had been thrown into more trees than hit golf balls...Continuing with my story, I take these awful clubs to the range and proceed to hit the irons farther than I hit my own...I go out and shoot my second best score of my life on an easy course with some balls that I'm pretty sure Bobby Jones used...What a great/weird day at the course!
I played out in Hawaii with my brother a few years ago and used his first set of clubs -a set of aluminum shafted Spalding Executives. The heads were not the problem, it was the shafts. Now why would I go to Hawaii and leave my clubs at home? I'm still searching for the answer on that one. I assumed he was going to let my use his Yamaha blades my dad had given him. After all, they were very similar to my Titleist blades and he never plays - except when family visits. But that was not the case. Played my worst round ever. Could not hit a thing. I wish I had your same luck.
My first trip to Scotland, the airlines lost all of our luggage (including our golf clubs)
for all 8 of us. Actually it was not lost, our baggage was in Paris and we were in
St Andrews, Scotland. We all had to buy golf clothes, shoes, balls, jackets and
hats till our luggage arrived. We had to rent golf clubs the 1st day, They were
terrible, don't know what brand they were, not American clubs i'm sure. Well, got
to play Carnoustie (the hardest golf course I had ever played up to that point) with rented clubs. Lost count on my score. Have played it 2 other times since and have played reasonably well. That was my first trip, first golf course I played in Scotland after flying all night long to get there. What a start to my golf trip in Scotland.
