When you go out to shoot 18......what yardage/meters (for the people across the ponds) do your pick ? or do you just go to a certain color and play from there at any course.
I normally try to pick around 6400 yds......but if I know the course and it is wide open I move it up to 6700+ yds.

I try and play between those yardages...6,400 and 6,700 yards, if the course is wet and they have those two markers available I'd play the 6,400, but when dry I'd opt for the 6,700 yards.
I try to play from the longest available. Makes more sense since most public courses are short by todays standard. My favorite is only 6315 from the tips, par 71 and a rating of 69.4. Plays through trees and across a creek and elevation changes so it is tougher than the numbers indicate.
If I'm by myself, I play the back tees. If with parnters, I'll play whatever they do, which is usually the middle tees. Back tees around here at usually anywhere from 6300-6600 yards, middle are 6000-6400. One course I play is 7085 from the back, but the conditions have to be dry for me to be able to play it OK.
I usually play the tips, a lot of times we just go the the back of the back tee boxes. Most of the time that's in the 6400-7000 yard range... Unless I go to Ko'olau, then I'm lookin at about 7300 yards.
depending who I am playing with I will play the blues or the whites. By myself I play the whites, more of a practice round. With my Father and brother in-law we play blues and another group we play whites.
OT- I always assumed the blues were for more accomplished players, low to mid cappers. I played this morning at 6:15, at the 15th hole I hit my 2nd shot just as I hear the crack of a driver behind me. I finish the hole and watch this guy criss cross the fairway 3 times, hit 2 out of the greenside bunker and then 3 putt. I let him play through because I was in no hurry. He walks over to the blues and hits a awful drive. I sat there wondering why he was making the course harder on himself. He took at least an 8 on the hole before and struggled with his swing. I had always thought you played the blue tees only after you had consistanly played well from the whites. I am not sure why I think this but I do.
