Ever get one of these rounds?

Played yesterday and shot 37 on the front nine, two bogies, a birdie, and 6 pars. Then we're off to the back nine. Well, I started off with double bogey on 3 of the first 4 holes. it was goofy too, i wasn't upset, i was just shocked at how bad i was hitting it from one nine to the other. To finish off the round, i hit my second shot in a greenside bunker. i tried to get too cute with my 3rd and duffed it . hit the 4th out and two putt for a 6. end up with a 46 on the back. oh well, i was angry at how i hit it, but just more so in disbelief. at least im finally getting my tempo under control.

sorry it's a long post, just needed to vent a little.

83 is a reasonable score i have done this plenty of time gone out in level +1 or +2 and come back in +8 +10 it does shock you but then it can go the other way that is why we play this wonderful game........

I did something like that in a tournament on saturday... birdied #1 and then had 2 putt pars on the next 7 holes, I hit the every fairway and GIR on the first 8 holes. Then I hit it in the drink on #9 and finished out in 37, and on the back 9 I only hit 3 GIR and I 2 putted every single hole to come in with a 42...

If I shot a round of golf like that I would probably be experiencing the same emotions. No anger at all and a lot of disbelief, because it would be the best round I ever shot.

That's what I like, though. You do so well and then make such a drop that you can't even get mad at it. When I get mad, I get mad and I don't enjoy it. When I'm just standing there, stunned and wondering how I did that, I've gotta laugh at myself.

...

I save the swearing and such for when I'm in the pro shop tallying up my score.

disbelief is probably my most common emotion. Mostly from my putting, but the last 2 rounds I had 33 putts each round, not great but better than the 38, and 39 putts I had before that.

When the round goes sour I try to just laugh it off. Try being the operative word.

Good grief....... If I shot that I'd buy a round for everyone on the course. 94 is still my best and that was a year ago. I seem to get really streaky, so when I seem to be grooving a good swing I try to rush to the course. But, by then it's usually gone.

My game is so bad now I keep looking at the woods hoping Bagger Vance will walk out and save me.

Add a couple of strokes to each 9 and that round sounds very familiar. I've had 2 this year.. one early that I remember well I hit every fairway on the front and shot a 39. I head to the back, the easiest side, and proceed to hit a house with my first drive about 50 yards OB. I managed to scramble around for a 44(83), but sometimes I think it would be better to walk off after 9. I just can't do it though. If I'm going good, I want to see how low I can go for 18 and if I'm not I want those last 9 holes to straighten out what's wrong.

I'm usually the opposite in my rounds...slow starter then get it going on the back nine...sometimes I think it's the break b/w 9's to catch a hot dog/beer(s) at the turn...no it's not the beer effect either...I'm schooled too well there

This is the best golf quote I have ever read. I wish I could take credit for it.

Golf is sport's ultimate siren song. One cleanly, crisply struck blow with a forged blade beckons us all back to the first tee for more inevitable torture by the certain and all-powerful vagaries of the game. The moment you think you've "got it" in golf is the precise moment golf has "got you."

Great quote, Scott. As bad as my scores are these days, it's only the fact that I am actually hitting the ball pretty well that keeps me coming back!

As to the original post that sounds about how my best round ever unfolded. Went out 1 over 37, and came in at 46 for an 83. The 37 was (and remains, come to think of it) my best 9 by several strokes. Everything was going right. I was thinking that my game had finally come together. I think what happened to me was that I was on such a high from the great front that as soon as I had a bad shot or two I fell apart mentally, and things went downhill from there. It was a bit of a turning point, I guess. My scores took a dip from regularly shooting 89-90 to regularly shooting 86-88. That was MANY years ago. After a very long layoff I haven't even gotten close to 90 yet. It will come.

Can I join in on this one today...Yesterday..played a really tight course I mean if you miss the fairway..you are in trouble..well shot a 45 on the front..Had a few double bogeys in there and then went to the back and shot a 38... and should have been lower 18 par 5..easiest hole really on the course except t-shot ..you have to keep it left...well I didnt..OB...played it a 7 double bogey to finish at 38...BUt I did have 2 lucky birdies on the back..one out of a bunker and a 30 footer.
