Northeast MA golfers - Sagamore Hampton?

I will be staying in Salisbury Beach the last week in June. We are supposed to play a little course called Sagamore Hampton (sagamorehampton.com). Looks like a VERY short but pretty little course. Anyone play there recently? Is it in decent shape?

RainmanP:

A coworker (who played there last year) says it holds water if it's been rainy, greens tend to be fast, the back can be very buggy -- bring your repellent.

He also thought it was "long" though, so take that for what it's worth.

Enjoy your vacation!

Long? Are we talking about the same course? According to the scorecard it's just over 6000 yards from the BLUE tees. A number of the "par 4s" aren't even 300 yards. I'm thinking my new hybrid will get a workout off the tees.

Yeah...same course...he described the 8th to a tee. Mind you, I've never layed golf with this guy, so I know nothing about his game.

The sad thing is that even with 445 yard "par 5" and 284 yard "par 4" holes I will be lucky to shoot a decent score the way I am playing right now. Oh well, at least I will get to try my new toys - the above mentioned Hogan hybrid and the TaylorMade 420 I just ordered.

Well, I did get to play this little course a couple of times last week. The course was in great condition with soft greens and lush fairways. The course is tougher than its short length might lead you to believe. The second cut of rough is deep, drainage ditches/creeks cross many fairways, and there are not just trees, but small wooded rocky hills plunked almost in the middle of a couple of fairways. Driving accuracy is a premium on many holes. You can't even see three or four of the greens.

Number 8, mentioned by Saderchick, is a VERY interesting hole. It is a very short par 5, but the topography makes up for the length. A creek crosses the fairway about 150 yards out and a pond encroaches about halfway across from the left side. A good tee shot put your ball on a pretty extreme upslope. You have to walk to the top of the ridgetop with the 150 markers to see the green AND the almost straight downslope of the other side of the ridge.

Besides the beautiful course I shot my two best scores since returning to the game in February after a 12-13 year absence, 94 and 93. Both could easily have been several strokes better. My front 9 score the second round was 43, but all my good luck up to that point caught up with me on the back.

These were my first rounds with my new Hogan CFT 3H hybrid, or any hybrid for that matter. What a SWEET club! The density of that little head makes for an extremely solid feel. With irons there is a pretty distinct feel when the club contacts the ball. The hybrid just blows right through with great inertia. It really gives a feeling of confidence that the club is going right through the ball with no deflection. I am on the hunt for a 1H.
