Be honest

Have you ever thrown a club in frustration? I did once. I had hit a perfect draw with my driver around a long dogleg right (I'm a lefty) and my ball was sitting dead next to the 200 yard marker. It was a perfect placement for the most accurate club in my bag, the 7 wood. The flag was sitting dead center of the green... I should also mention that this was the 6th carry-over in a skins game I was playing with clients. There was near fifty bucks on the line.
Anyway, it may have been the most confident I've ever been while addressing the ball. There was no way I was going to screw up this shot. I'd hit this shot a million times on the range... So I made a nice rhythmic swing and I topped/shanked into a water hazard almost directly to my right.

Without thinking, I whipped the club underhanded and forward about 30 yards long and 30 feet high. It travelled end over end in a beautiful arc landing on its side in the fairway. As soon as it landed I felt like a total idiot and immediately apologized. They all laughed as we'd played golf together probably 20 times before this and I'd seen two of them go Tommy Bolt before. But I was still embarrassed.

I've committed other transgressions such as yelling **** loudly one time when I was playing with a friend from the army who'd come out to visit. He calmly looked at me and said, "Dude, it's a golf course, not a football stadium". I've never done anything like that since. Man I felt like about two feet tall.

No, never thrown a club, but I've slammed them down...really far down. I slammed my 9 iron once so hard, that you couldn't see the head of the club - the grass was a little wet and it just dove in. Usually this is accompanied by a low growling four letter word that rhymes with "luck".

Funny thing is I really don't like playing with people who can't seem to control their temper, ironinc, because I have a pretty bad temper, but when I play golf, for the most part, I tend to not get too upset. E.g. that 9 iron I slammed was after my third ball in a row went into to water. And that tee box was about to be moved anyways.

I like to play because it makes me realize that most of my screw ups are my fault anyways.

I didn't really throw it hard but I tossed a 4 iron toward my push cart and it hit just right and bent the shaft. Now I can try a new shaft. We really do some stupid things sometimes, don't we? I normally don't even do a soft toss like that but it bit me and I deserved it. Usually I will just drop the club where I'm standing and then pick it up and move on. Have a good one.

After a series of confidence-eroding slices I came awfully close to tossing my 8-iron but I grabbed myself by the scruff of the neck and said "If you can't be a grownup about this don't play the game"

I proceeded to slice most of my next several shots before giving up for the day and going home but I didn't throw my club and haven't had even the slightest urge to do so since.

Methinks it was my most rewarding golf moment since taking up the game.

I've thrown one and vowed to never do it again. It was my 60 degree wedge after it took me 5 shots to get on the green from about 30 feet off the green. I threw it at the golf cart and bent it a few degrees.

re

I am like Eric Galindo. I have never thrown a club but I have slammed a few down and I have placed them in my bag with a rather excited force.

Talking

I threw a club to the cart out of frustration. The shaft hit the metal frame which split the shaft right in half and both ends stuck straight out of the ground...not too shabby.

...got a new club out of it, too hehe...not free of course, but I guess it was time...

Yes. A few times. It's been quite awhile. I hope I've outgrown it.

Yes I have....unfortunately, my clubs had a history of breaking when they hit the ground, and I learned quickly enough that it was an expensive way to express frustration.

Yes, I have many a times unfortunately. It was costly in many ways.

One time it may have cost me a scholarship. I had the USC coach(South Carolina) follow me around one round in the SC JR Am along with my father. Needless to say "back in those days"...my temper made Tiger's look like Mike Reid.

I was having a bad day(I think having the coach their made me nervous). I was such a rotten kid, I slammed clubs down and let out numerous explectives, all within earshot range. After the round my dad took me behind the woodshed and gave me the toungue lashing of toungue lashings saying you probably just blew your chance at a scholarship to USC. Its funny USC gradually stopped writing less and less after that and never did offer.

I realized then that this game of golf was not "healthy" for my sanity and a year later quit it cold turkey. Didn't pick up a club for about two years in college...and to be honest didn't miss the strain and pressure that went along with it. Never got into it seriously again. I called it Jr golf burnout syndrome in my greeting post, but temper issues were just as big a factor if not more.

I haven't thrown a club since. I don't shoot the scores I once did, but then again I'm enjoying the game these days. I find myself not wanting to play alot these days because when I start to improve by playing more...the mental images of my temper tantrums creep in and scare me aware from the course. I dont want to go their again, and neither do playing companions want to deal with it.

I'd rather shoot 79 and be content that I broke 80, then shoot 71 and throwing clubs knowing I blew an opportunity for 69 by 3 putting the last two holes.

Seems like you were real hard on yourself back then. Golf is a very frustrating game but I play it for the competition and to relieve stress.......not create it. I have been playing since late 1988 and I have never once even considered throwing a club. I've given myself many a good cussing out but even that was in my head where no one else would be bothered by it.

I'm glad you found your way back to the game and are enjoying it more.

League, I was real hard on myself. I took it wayyyy too seriously. It's funny those competitve juices still kick in...but expectations are worlds apart these days.

I've never thrown a club or even cursed out loud. I'm a pretty mellow person though.

when i was younger, i threw clubs like tiger...never throwing them, just flipping the grip end to the ground. my dad walked up to me one time after doing so and said "You wanna be like all these hacks and throw clubs all day long, or do you want to play a gentlemen's game with some dignity" Never threw one again. Now i just murmur to myself...never have i ever cursed out loud. I think that is the worst action anyone can do.
