For those interested in the Masters!

Here is a photo of the last 5 years badges. I was very fortunate to be one of the people selected to become a Patron in 2001.

To me the most fun is taking a different group of friends down each year to watch the tournament. I have promised almost all of my regular golf partners over the years at our club that they will get to go to see the Masters.

That's pretty cool... I will find a way to go there someday.

I've been attending the NEC Invitational at Firestone in Akron for about the past 15 years.

You can get practice round tickets to the Masters. Just call Augusta National and they will mail out an application to you. You may not get tickets the first year but they do get too you within 2 or 3 years. It was because of practice round tickets that I got to become a Patron.

In 2001 they needed to add Patrons so they had a lottery and based the names on those who had applied for practice round tickets over a certain number of years.

I was most fortunate to be drawn.

My biggest joy in this is taking friends down to see the Tournament.

I have been every year since 2000 as well. It is something I look forward to all winter and it marks the real beginning of spring for me.

We should meet up next year. I'm taking my sister this time. Just the Thurs. and Friday though. My son and a buddy of his are Sat. and Sunday.

I used to go Wed and either Friday or Saturday but now usually go Tues or Wednesday when I can talk to my friends out there and they are not really grinding at that point.

I must clarify, I DO NOT have tickets unless selected in the practice round lottery. Our PGA Cards get us in to any tournament...benefits of membership...low pay, cheap/free equipment, free golf, tournament access...

Masters

I moved to Augusta in 1977 . A friend from my hometown called the next spring and told me his dad got 2 tix every year and didn't go , but we could use them on Thursday . So 1978 we go - I am so pumped - we get there and on our way to the gate I see a small building with the sign " Masters Badges " on it . I was in too big of a hurry to see the course , I figured I would apply next trip . Well , 1979 rolls around and my buddy and I go again on Thursday (we did it for 9 years) . This time I go to the building and on it is a small sign - "Waiting List Closed" . As it has been except for the brief lottery mentioned in another post . I have a couple of friends who got on the list in 1977 , and they started getting tickets about 6 years ago . It hasn't been too bad - I have been to at least 20 tournament rounds and more practice rounds . I got In the lottery and got tix for Tuesday the first year they did the practice rounds , but have never been lucky again .
