I find that the natural breaks you have from golf (being unable to play for a weekend or two for various reasons) are enough to keep the juices flowing.

but Waz, you should feel fortunate to be able to practice your speed putting on the ice while fishing. what size hole do you drill for a cup?

When I was in the Air Force I was always lucky to be stationed at bases that year round golf was possible. Although I could play year round I normally cut back in the winter and played basketball and volleyball. I found that if I took those couple months I had more desire to play during the warmer months.

I live near San Francisco. We are able to play golf all year 'round. I have been rained out only once in the last few years.

Question: Why should I take a break from golf? It's not physically demanding for me. If I get a little sore from playing, I get in the Jaccuzi.
I play every week and wish I could play more often. I plan to 3-5 times a week when I retire in a couple of years.

Woo HOO!! I didn't start this thread!
I can play all year around, and I STILL try to find excuses to play more than normal.
I play at least 18 once a week, and an executive once a week. I hit the range everyday, but feel I need to go more.
I'm in a rut of practicing but not practicing anything specific.
My "boss" at home allows me to play as often as I want, mainly because I allow her to play also. With six kids to give attention to, we both are finding that 4-5 hours theraputic. I have had to stop a lot of other hobbies to accomodate green fees though.

BUT, what in the world is stopping eveyone from playing all year long?
Ice fishing? Oh now THAT'S a great replacement for golf
I'm just picturing wazmankg in a scene from "grumpy old men" the remake!

I'll have to remember to start a weather report thread in January/February.

Sadly, that bundled up figure sitting next to wazmankg would be me.
We both make the most of our "golf year" by playing until they pry the putter from our frozen fringers. (The scene from Jeremiah Johnson where they find the dead mountain man, frozen solid, but still holding his 50 caliber rifle comes to mind )

As for that January/February "weather report"...........wazmankg and I will have a "gimme" for you.
An in, "Gimme an N!....Gimme an A!....What do you have? N/A!!!!

Yeah, we take off the summer since the humidity makes too many "juices" flow. We are soaked just walking to the first tee, much less playing 18 holes.

11thPlague and I just played last week and I think I sweat off 10 lbs in one round. It was hot and we had a lot of fun.

In Texas it's possible to play 12 months a year provided the weather is warm enough in January and Febuary. For me it just depends on the weather if it's warm enough I'll play. That usually means it's around 50 degrees or higher and the wind isn't too high.

Here in Charleston, we never take summers off. In fact, my friends and I play in the middle of the day because the course is slow. This has been an extremely hot summer though. Need lots of water. I'm really looking forward the this autumn. Have a good one.

Last summer, we played Daniel Island on the hottest day of the year. I think I drank 16 bottles of water during the round and sweat the entire amount out. But it was definitely fun and a good track. I was kidding about taking the summers off...middle of the day when it is hot is great...2-2 1/2 hour rounds are GREAT!!!

I play pretty much year around. In Jan. and Feb. it can be tough and I don't play as much, but I still play. Kinda the same in July, last month I played in the mornings or late evenings.
