Is it me or is the Big Break more of a mini tour showdown now? I understand they want and need guys who have game especially since the winner is awarded with exemptions but I would rather see guys who can play but have yet to be given an opportunity to show their skills. One guys is a recent British Amateur champion, there are several mini tour players including one who has won before, a couple of PGA teaching pros, etc. If I wanted to see guys like this I would watch the Nationwide tour, which I don't. Seems to me that these guys have all had opportunites in the past. I mean being an Amatuer champion has got to open some doors for you and one guy has been a pro since the 80's. You think if they were going to make it they would've by now. I'd like to see someone come out of nowhere to have a chance at his 15 minutes...possibly more.
It's also frustrating watching these guys hack up a hole or blow straighforward wedge shots and make excuses. They were all complaining about the wind with a wedge shot but if you noticed the flag was limp and the co-host's long hair was barely moving during all of this...on a links course no less.
Just my .02
Thats why I won't even watch this farce after watching the first Big Break a couple of years ago. As one forum member said (I'll steal his line) this is the time for me to take a 12 week BIG BREAK from the golf channel!
What night and time is this show on? I just got a new TiVo (piece of garbage compared to my old Ultimate TV) and am not confident what it recorded os the new BB. Thanks.

Tuedays at 9pm eastern time. They replay it endlessly though. In fact I just finished watching last night's re-run on TGC.
How's this? - "Big Break V - Amatuer Edition". I think watching people like us (me? scores in the 80's or higher) would be more enjoyable than watching guys like Don Donatello from BBII.

I'd like to see one with first timers though. People who've never touched a club in their life, competing for exemptions to The Mercedes Championship, The Player's Championship, The Masters, and the US Open. Now THAT would be entertaining.
Yeah I definitely think "average" golfers opposed to mini tour players would be more interesting to watch. At least you would expect them to make some mistakes. You listen to a lot of the guys talk on the show (Americans mostly) and you'd think they could challenge Tiger but then see them miss greens on easy shots, and one guy in particular on the second show yank two shots out of bounds left from like 125 or something. The same guy talks about "being the best putter in the world" also...I got a big kick out of that one.
For me watching it...I'm thinking these guys had better have AWESOME short games, becuase just based on their not so fundemental swings and regular bad shots I think I could take most of the American team.
From what I've seen of the new series, the Europeans look to have an excellent game.
Although Scottish Links and US Golfers don't tend to go well, especially Carnoustie. Bart from BB2 was first off the show, he finished 3rd in BB2 and finished 12th in this?
Does that meant most of those guys from BB4 would have beaten Kip and Double D very easily?
It came down to 2 from the European team the other night. Both were having trouble coming withing 25 feet from 80-100 yards out. Both even missed the green once or twice. They should've ditched both of them, but one guy finally stuck one... it looked like a lucky shot considering his other efforts. I can see being a bit short or long, but these 2 were 40 feet left or right a few times... ridiculous.

I too think the Europeans have an excellent game...moreso then the americans.

Remember Danielle from BBIII?? "Driving is the strongest part of my game"... "chipping is the best part of my game"... "putting is the best part of my game"...
Yanks the drive into the trees, chunks the chip, then 3-putts...
That american guy is just the testosterone-injected version of Danielle!!!

Not necessarily. Bart has moved, gotten married and taken a new job since BB2. Also has a new kid on the way. Hasn't been playing much golf lately and it showed.

If you notice the mini tours these guys are on are several steps below the Nationwide tour. These guys have a long way to go to get up to that level. In that regard I do think these guys are looking to be able to make that big jump you're talking about.

Actually nope...don't remember. I didn't have Golf Channel then.
