OK, here is it. The end of October, and it is 41* out as I speak. I was wondering why golf courses continue to charge 80 bucks to play the course at this time of year. I am sure a lot more people would play if there were reasonalbe rates for being this cold, adn this late in the season.. Up here in Chicago.
Any advice / info on why this is would be great.

Most of the courses in my area do have "Fall Rates" in effect by now. Friday I played a $45.00 course for $15.00 and that included a cart. Not all the courses have that great of a deal........but they should!
Just the opposite here...as of the first of November, our rates go up dramatically by 30 to 50 per cent. they won't go down again until the tourist season ends in mid April. Late spring, summer and early fall are the cheapest golfing times here in south Florida.

That's because all the old birds head south for the winter!

That's our revenge for all the flak you Southerners give we folks up north about your year-round season.
i know about the pricing down south. i played golf in AZ.. but why wont the courses in the N lower their rates ... i mean, 80 is lower than normal.. but stil....

If you're still paying $80 and that's the reduced rate then you have to be playing an upscale course. Why not find a cheaper place to play? Especially given the condition that most courses are in this time of year.
well, i like to play the nicer places this time of year.. cuz i dont want to spend 100+ during the peak season. I just wish they would lower their rates more than a couple bucks and call it FALL RATES
Sadly, you're the cause of your own problem. The more guys that feel like you do and play for the $80.00 "reduced rate" the less the course will be inclined to lower that rate.

I played Balmoral the other day for $39 instead of $52, and Nettle Creek in Morris, IL is $25 instead of $40. Fall rates are out there if you look around.

Where do you play ? I've played some upscale public courses around here and I can't think of too many that charge as much as $80 even in season, during the week. Some of the resort courses up in northern Mi. get that much & more in season, though.
waz,, i was up in N Mich the end of Sept.. Played Crooked Tree, True North, and Birchwood Farms.... Beautiful Courses...
Im looking into playing Harborside, Bolingbrook GC, Cantigny...
I think it's a buyers market here. Michigan has so many golf courses, too many some in the business would say. It helps to keep the prices down. Real estate doesn't get much higher end than Harbor Springs in Michigan, where those courses are located and 2 of them are charging between $40-$60 right now. I thought True North was private. Nice layouts all.

I think it's a buyer's market in the Twin Cities, too. Anyway, there's an upscale daily-fee course in my area that normally costs $99 to play. In the early spring and late fall, they have a "Pay the Temperature" policy. Whatever the thermometer says 30 min before your tee time, that's what you pay. Price includes cart.
