Golf vacation for two?!?

Hi gang! I'm new to the forums and am looking for a little help. My wife and I are wanting to go on a 4 or 5 day golf vacation for our first anniversary. We're thinking about Myrtle Beach, since there is so much to offer down there and it is within a day's drive from our home in Indiana. But I wanted to get some other input from the rest of you. Price is an issue, but not the deciding factor. We're both mediocre players (beginners), so that might be something to think about. Our trip will be the first week of April. Any input? Thanks in advance!

Why not schedule a gold school somewhere, 4-5 day classes, with the ability to play afternoons. plenty of those available. Steph and I did that at a school a couple of years ago and loved it. you can get all inclusives with meals and hotel through any number of places.

Boomer, which school did you go to? That's a good idea. Not sure if my wife will go for it, but we'll see. I'm just lucky enough to get her to agree on a golf vacation!

Myrtle Beach

If you do go to Myrtle Beach, look around for the package deals. I've seen a few that offered a Gold, Silver, Bronze kind of selection. My daughter has a part time job at one of the courses...and doesn't really play!

Whether you go to MB or do the golf school, it ought to be a great trip. Just as an FYI, the Robert Trent Jones Trail throughout the state of Alabama is drop dead great. There's nearly 500 holes of golf!

Have you considered the Central Coast of California? I think you'd really enjoy the affordable golf available here in San Luis Obispo. Golf Digest recently rated our area #1 for golf in California. With the intention of sharing information (not promoting my site), I'd suggest you check out golfslo.com. Here's some photos of some of the nearby courses.

April is peak season in Myrtle Beach, which means costs are a bit higher than the rest of the year, but with over 100 golf courses and reasonable priced hotels/condos to choose from, you can definitely create a golf package within any budget. Average temperature in April is 75 F. As it was mentioned above, defintiely shop around as there are deals to be had and always make sure carts, surcharges and taxes are always included in your golf package quotes!!!

When you get there pick up a newspaper.. Tons of coupons and killer deals in there. Save you alot of cash. Plus rates should be very reasonable right now. If I was going to suggest one try Myrtle Beach National (Kings North), or World Tour (Never played the World Tour but heard it is nice)

I would say in the summer time (slow season for golf in Myrtle Beach), the coupon idea may work and save you money. But in April, it is peak season and many courses are booked solid by March or even February or you may not get the tee-times you want. Just a friendly tip.

It's nicknamed "The Gambler". To reach the green in 2, you have to drive the ball on the island fairway off the tee and then a long approach shot over the water......hence the big gamble.

I think that Tiger's Paw at Myrtle Beach has a 4-5 day golf school that includes hotel. But like everyone is saying April is peak and prices are double what they normally are.

We went to the Ben Sutton School in Florida near Tampa/St. Petersburg area but i believe they have more locations could be wrong. but they were very nice and there are people that go back for tune ups every couple of years, big facility, not big buildings but a lot of room to play any shot and right next to Sandpiper Golf Club that has 27 holes and you can play as much as you want each day after school.

Yeah that's a tough hole. In order to be on in two you have to get off the tee about 300 yards from the tips. That leaves you 150 in. Sounds easy right! Only problem is that the island fairway you are shooting for is only like 50-75 yards wide. I was able to drive onto the island but my second shot was too long to carry the water safely so I had to go back to the normal fairway for my second shot. But still a really fun hoe to play. Hole 12 Par 3 with the island green is fun too. Not a real long hole but it is intimadating looking!

I play in Myrtle beach every Memorial weekend. We stay at the caravell condos.
They have great deals one block from the beach. Eight of us go and share two, two bedroom condo's(4 per condo). we all play golf Friday 2x, Sat 2x, Sun 2x, Mon 1X,7 rounds total and all at great courses like Kings North, MB National, and more. Price is about 650.00 total each for golf and accomadations. I advise you call them and check it out.

That is our most popular Myrtle Beach golf package, no doubt about it
