We were playing two groups of three-some at a course in Irvine, CA. The four-some seniors in front of us were slow and our three-somes were bunched up together many times. We were playing skin so it was more fun to have every body playing the same hole. Some body in our group suggested that we play as one group, and we did. Oh man, did we get heckled although we were no slower than the group in front of us. I was under a lot stress to play quick and didn’t play well at all. Amazingly, the marshal let us play six, although he followed us and kept saying “you can’t play 6!” but he didn't say we have to break up. It was weird having the marshal following you for 6 holes.
Very surprised you could play six, did the marshal think you guys didn't hear him or something? I mean, "saying you can't play 6!" is an indication to break up IMO.
In my experience, most Marshals are *********. If your 6 some was keeping up with the foursome in front of you, that indicates a sever problem ahead of you. Why wasn't he hounding those guys as well?
Every time I have actually seen a marshal on the course, it seems that he is singling out the wrong group.
Edited to say: That most marshals do not care because they are just putting in their required amount of shifts so they can golf for free.

Even though he was saying “you can’t play 6” but his tone of voice resigned to the fact it will be no faster and also it will put the group behind us another hole behind if we were to split up. But I think he has to “do something” so the group behind us quit complaining.
