For Houston it's probably $35 a round. There are a lot of $50 plus courses but quite a few cheaper ones. I played a city course the other day walking, and the adult rate was $11. Not a bad course at all. I'm a junior, though, I usually play cheap most places.

With 1 hour of me there are probably 20 courses ranging from 9 hole courses that are 10 dollars as many holes as you can play to 45-50 dollars for 18 holes. The course I play at is 26 dollars walking but I have a membership.

I would say the average in Upstate NY is about:
$33.00 /18, with a cart per person

It pays to live in Myrtle Beach. We are in the middle of prime golf season and rates run from 38 to about 90 and the newer couses at Barefoot run about $125 to $150. Of course, having a local drivers license gives me "local" rates ranging from $25 to $35. Played Bay Tree yesterday for $33 with regular rates at $58 in the am and $52 pm. Prime rates are about $85 at Angel Trace with local rates at $25 and, get five local punches on a card and get one round free!

I also belong to a senior group that gives specials that are a little higher than local rates..BUT .. you can bring a foursome on for the same rate. About a month ago we played Lion's Paw for $23 (regular rate was $95). All kinds of deals if you look hard. We are now down to about 110 courses.

We have roughly 20 public courses within 30-40 minutes of Allentown, PA.

Most of the cheaper courses have typical suspect conditions, but most are easy to walk, which is what a friend and I try to do each Monday. The average price to walk in season at the middle-of-the-road muni's is about $18so figure about another $10 for cart.

The nicer, more upscale places generally get about $40-$45 w/cart during the week. Of course, just across the border in Jersey, that price dynamic increases substantially for the upscale course fees.

For where we are located, we have a good variety of courses at a pretty good price.
